A few things:

I am also trying to get rid of dark marks. I ordered some Dr.Dennis Gross products from Sephora. The extra strength Alpha beta peel and the retinol serum.

I have had success years ago with Retin A. Products that contain, glycolic acid and sulphur are also good with treating/calming acne. And retinol is supposed to help you exfoliate, get rid of the dead skin and reveal new brighter skin.

I used the retin A years ago and used it too frequently and had major peeling. But it did work. I bought it from Antiaging Systems. I will use it again in the far future.

The products I ordered should arrive soon. I also bought a new spf moisturizer from vitacost but am currenlty using the pink bottle spf30 from Alba botanica.

That brings me to this. I do not think you need to use an spf that is so high. Our skin already has protection. I think 30 40 or even 50 is enough. And depending on where you live more than that may be too much (in my opinion). I live in the north east and we don't get much sun and summer is such a short season.

And I read a study that explained that this is why darker complected individuals in the north east have extremely low vitamin d levels. And vitamin d is important for sooo many bodily functions especially the joints.

I didnt even know skin had a certain amount of suncreen depending on how dark you are. I also didnt know that that number means thats how long you can go before getting a sunburn. So you're right especially since im never in the sun for long periods of time anyway.

Update: I bought African black soap and tea tree oil a month ago and my scars have lighten. I'm not looking for a dramatic lightening cream since those can be damaging.

I have tried a super awesome trick!! I was told to buy a super light scrub and every night to massage my face with my fingers and palms well all over for 5 minutes and focusing on the real problem areas! It's working great so far and the scars are breaking up and diminishing ALOT!!! I'm so happy !!!

For some reason though, whenever I get a pimple. It forms this skin over it and then scars.

I don't know why it does that but it happens every time.

Sephora has this new computer that takes pictures of your skin and recommends perfect foundation colors and perfect skin care. Has anyone tried it? I think it's free.
2/c and some 3A.
Protein sensitive but can use occasionally
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.

Hello, I've dealt with acne since my teens... Now I am 28. After going off birth control and having a couple of kids my face has been horrible. Blackheads galore, painful cyctic acne... that only seemed to respond to antibiotics. During my last course of antibiotics, I ordered some peels and some blackhead extracting tools. If I try to take blackheads out I usually wind up flaring up some cysts, so I did it while on antibiotics and then I don't get new cysts I started with salicylic acid 20 percent once a week. and that helped some but I still had the cysts, hard spots that went down with the antibiotics, but never really went away and would come back as soon as i stopped the antibiotics. I read how glycolic acid works deeper by helping restore the underlayer of skin and since that's where the cycts form so I figured what the heck and ordered the glycolic 30 percent and started doing that once a week as well. Now I do salycilic and 2-3 days later glycolic. Sometimes I do salycilic one night and glycolic the very next. Either way I never use each more than once a week.

The past two months the glycolic has been added and my face has never looked better. I finished the antibiotics two weeks ago and am praying that I can maintain my healthy skin.

For my skin care routine at night, I remove my makeup with an oil cleansing of castor oil and Olive oil and then use yes to tomatoes acne scrub. Then I use a toner with witch hazel and willow bark. Then I use the overnight neutrogena vitamin cream. In the morning i wash with a natural oil soap bar (trying a few brands) and then a toner, and before makeup I use alba acnedote spot gel with 2 percent salycilic acid and then moisturize and then my everyday minerals makeup.

I would have NEVER put oil on my face, but using moisturizers with oils has actually reduced the oiliness soooo much. I know the bha and aha are helping too. My face used to look like an oil slick within an hour. Now it stays pretty normal all day I usually blot a little mid day and it seems oilier in the evenings but nothing like it used to be.

The acid peels have saved my life. I ordered mine from amazon.

School is about to start in a week and so far my skin has been horrible. My scarring has become less noticeable, but for some reason I have these little bumps on my cheek. They aren't legit pimples, but they are a form of acne.

I stopped applying products to my face for a while to see if they would go away and it became worse.

I realized yesterday that my skin may be acting up because I'm not doing my skin care routine anymore. My toner, black soap, and baking soda finished a month ago and I haven't bought any since because my family rarely goes out to Walmart unless we need to buy food. I bought everything I needed and so far it's worked.

I'm only drinking water now and going to layoff sweets since it throws my skin off balance.
I drop about 10-15 drops of tea tree oil in my bottle of face toner. I use neutrogena's alcohol free toner (in the blue bottle) every few days now that the weather's cooler. In the summer I used it every day.

Honey and sugar scrub to exfoliate. It sounds messy but it rinses clean and leave skin smoother and brighter looking.

Hey everyone. I wanted to share two tips that have really worked for me.

I used to have terrible, ugly acne... I tried every product from proactiv, biore, dermalogica, with no real success.

Two things have worked for me. 1 - getting on birth control. My hormones were sooo jacked up so this cleared up my skin about 60 percent.

The second thing is taking cod liver oil pills daily. I saw all these youtube videos about how it's amazing for your skin. I have been taking them since September and rarely have a break out. Look it up and try it, it can't hurt! I bought mine off Amazon.

I also wanted to chime in and share. The products that I have been using are:
Lush's Herbalism
Lush's Tree Tea Toner
Lush's Cosmetic Lad Moisturizer
Lush's Grease Lightning Spot Treatment
Acne Free Terminator 10 Spot Treatment w/ benzoyl peroxide
Rosehip Oil
Lavender Oil
St. Ive's Apricot Scrub
Queen Helene's Mud Pack Masque

I have had some of the best skin of my life with these products. I had a mild breakout the other day and it's almost completely gone. (Note that I am also on birth control, but I don't think it's having any kind of net effect on my skin seeing as I've had both fabulous and horrible skin with the same brand.)

In the mornings it's Herbalism, Tea Tree Toner, and Cosmetic lLad Moisturizer. If I'm breaking out, I'll add in one or both of the spot treatments. The Oils tend to be a bit too heavy for day use, and they leave my skin feeling greasy.

On a night where I do the whole shebang, I use the St. Ive's in the shower, followed by Herbalism in the shower. Then I do the Mud Masque for ~1 hour and it leaves my skin so amazingly soft. I follow that up with the Tea Tree Toner, Cosmetic Lad Moisturizer, and either spot treatment (sometimes both) on any breakouts. I feel like all the scrubbing and face masking has really helped the scars especially. I only do this every other night or so. If I'm not using the scrub and masque, my night routine is the same as my morning one, plus the oils.

The rosehip oil has been lovely for scars. I got at it at my local hippie-friendly grocery store and use the Aura Cacia brand. Make sure you have something of acceptable quality. It should have a distinct yet subtle smell, sink into your skin, be a bright orangey-yellow color, and the packaging should instruct you to refrigerate it. (The first brand I bought, NOW, had no smell, sat on top of my skin, was more of a greenish yellow like olive oil, and I'm pretty sure it made me breakout horribly.)

I pick at my skin, so when I have open sores I like to dilute the lavender oil in the rosehip and maybe add a little bit of Neosporin or other first aid ointment. I'm still trying to get the timing of the rosehip oil within my routine down, but I have seen a reduction in scarring using it between my toner and moisturizer and giving it time to sink in.

My hyper pigmented scars are almost completely gone, so the quality of my skin has vastly improved. Unfortunately my ice pick scars appear to be sticking around. I'm hoping that over time all the scrubbing will wear them down.
