Oil cleansing, anybody?

Has anybody tried The Oil Cleansing Method for their facial cleanser?

I am currently doing this and it is A-mazing! I tend to get reddish in the T-zone, and this evens out my color and skin tone something incredible. Also helps with the breakouts. I highly recommend this for any naturals out there.

I currently am using 80% sunflower oil and 20% castor oil. My skin took about 4 days to adjust - it got suuuper oily, then totally evened out.
I've been doing pretty much the same thing for a couple of months. I do closer to half sunflower half castor. I think it may be helping to clear out my clogged pores.

No thanks. OCM is like a wonderful honeymoon with a thrilling new lover, and then being thrown into the depths of marital hell.

I've tried it several times, and it always starts out great...feels wonderful and I think it's clearing my pores and I dare to hope that I might actually have perfect skin one day. And then, suddenly, I get the worst clogged skin and pimples and grossness that takes months and months to clear up. Happens every time. To me anyway.

I do it like once a week but follow with an oil free soap. My theory is the oil is dissolving the oil then I can wash it away. My moisturizer has some light oils. I also alternate salycilic and glycolic acid peels weekly. I have very acne prone skin and a combo if these methods has reduced my cysts and blackheads immensely.
Awesome post poxyfairyplume! I used to do this but lately I've been slacking off resulting in dry patches on my t-zone and a few bumps on my cheeks.. eww! This was just the reminder I needed, thanks!

Redcatwaves what kind oil did you use? I can only use either hempseed or grapeseed. The others are too much for my skin and result in clogged pores and a nasty breakout
I've been doing this for about a month with good results. Some people on here were talking about the Yes to.. line skin care etc, so thought I'd try it, just because it takes too long in the mornings to let a hot washcloth sit on my face for a couple minutes, 3 times. I haven't put any "chemical" on my face in a while, and this stuff made my skin so burny and itchy. I think I'm going back to the oil. Hope I don't get the clogged pore thing down the line, it doesn't seem to clog anything. My face and hair seems to absolutely love sunflower oil. I put a little bit of tea tree oil in it to help with the pimples too.
Be careful! Some of the yes to tomatoes stuff has red pepper in it! I am sensitive to irritants so why on earth they would put it in their products i have no idea. I've stopped buying their products. I'm using neutrogena naturals at the moment.
I use the ocm about 6 days a week with half castor, half apricot oil. And I use honey about once a week. I don't really let a hot rag sit on my face; I put the oil on first thing when I get in the shower and let it sit on my face while I bathe. The steam opens my pores then I just wipe off the oil.

Yes, I use the OCM and love it. I've been doing it for about 5 years. Castor oil was too drying for me, so I quit using it. I use coconut oil mixed with hemp oil to cleanse and hemp oil and shea butter afterwards to seal in the moisture. Happy happy skin.

RCW not sure what kind of oil you were using but people that use evoo seem to have those kind of issues. Possibly because not all evoo is created equal and some are diluted with other oils. Just a thought.

I prefer to use oil cleanser that I can buy. I really like Fancl Mild Cleansing Oil. Works well for removing all sunscreen and makeup, and doesn't irritate or dry out my skin.

Sometimes I wash/moisturize my face with olive oil (good quality olive oil). I haven't had any problems with it although I am very acne prone. But I don't do it every day, maybe once every few days. I figured if it worked for the ancient Romans it can work for me!

I've been doing the ocm for a good few years now, but like Spiralli I buy the cleansers ready-made, I don't make them up myself. Moogoo or Bloom are the brands I buy, both Australian. I occasionally try cream cleansers but they never feel as good as the oil.

Rancid oils are toxic, as with any "bad" food. They may not make you sick per se, but can cause damage at the cellular level. Sun doesn't make you sick either, but it can and does damage cells if you're out in it on a consistent basis. Just using that as a comparison. Do some research on it.

No offense but I don't take much stock in articles. Anyone can say anything they want and twist facts to support whatever point they intend to make.
If there is bacterial or fungal contamination it could make you sick. The reason we "preserve" foods are to prevent bacterial and fungus from breaking it down and it is the microorganisms that can potentially cause illness.
