Make-up looks you have tried or want to try

1000 pardons if a thread like this already exists. Search will not work on my app and I looked back through a couple years worth of threads and did not see one. Makeup looks/inspirations change with the years, so a duplicate couldn't hurt Now, with that said...

I did this Pat McGrath look that was used in D&G's Autumn/Winter 2013/14 fashion show. It is inspired by Sophia Loren. Very simple and beautiful.

She used a mix of red and deep amethyst/plum lipstick to create a burgundy. I love how it looks different, but beautiful, on all the models.

I went to a casual holiday dinner tonight so I did a toned down stain rather than a full on lip, and a little less of a winged out liner. It worked well.

I stopped wearing makeup when I started college. It used to be a full on wing before this and I used to do it in like 1 minute both eyes. Its been so long I can barely do one lol. Need to get back at it haha

I love using luminizers and bronzers etc. For that glowy dewy beautiful skin look.

Oh yeah. I've been doing anything from a mild wing to a full on cat eye for 20+ years. It does not take long at all, and it is like riding a bicycle It's always been one of my favorite looks and works really well with my eye shape. I love gel/cream liners, but my favorite method has always been exactly what Marisa Tomei did in Untamed Heart. A lower, Bridget Bardot-ish, wing was more popular then. I take my black pencil liner, hold it over a lighter for a split second to melt it slightly, blow, and slap it on. So easy.

It glides like butter and goes on really thick and dark.

Today I did one of my favorite quick and easy looks. I came across it when looking at Lancôme products on line. Michelle Phan did the tutorial. It's a light foundation or tinted moisturizer... Whatever you want to use. I did Estee Lauder Double Wear Light and mainly on the center of my face and really thinned out from there. I concealed, lightly powdered a few areas, put on a very light shimmery rose blush, took Urban Decay's 24-7 eyeliner in YEYO, which is white, and placed it under my brown bone, in the center of my eye lid, in the corners of my eyes, and on my cupids bow. I then used a light Lancôme Éclat Miracle light serum and my finger to blend/melt it in. In the tutorial Michelle used a black eyeliner on her inner lash line. I just use the Lancôme Hypnose Star mascara. It makes your lashes looked lined. Light lipstick or tinted Chapstick and you are done.

Here are some I like and have been wanting to try. They are all recreations by Pixiwoo. Two are from their Supermodel series, one from their Bond Girl and another 90's model.

I have always wanted to learn how to do a great, nightime, smokey eye look. Like Janet Jackson worthy.

I don't look anything like her so...
3b (with 3c tendencies) on modified CG

^ That is absolutely beautiful! My favorite style/shape of smokey eye.

I am sure you could find a tutorial on it, or something close. I was just looking at Janet Jackson classic smokey eye of smokey eye on YT, and the selections were a bit limited, but smokey eye alone always yields about 9 million results.

Hahaha! I can not stop laughing. Technically, these are makeup looks I have tried.

I came across this "historically accurate 1990s Grunge Makeup Tutorial" and ... What?
http://youtu.be/4chvC1n3r3o

Yes, there would have been some differences for those with makeup artiats/doing a shoot or some on a catwalk. Remember, that came after 'grunge'/alternative music. I still find it weird to see tutorials on this stuff but I object to a lot in this video. She does have the favorite eyeshadow colors down. Purples were popular too but not once did I ever see someone pick foundation lighter than their skin to make the eyes pop. You are coming off the tail end of the 80s tanning bed obsession. People were pale. Hole in the O-Zone. Sunscreen was becoming huge. Heroin addicts were paler. #2. I had little to no makeup brushes in the 90s and only knew a few girls who did. Few blended and many, including myself, only did winged liner on the top.

Alicia Silverstone '90s Makeup Inspiration | POPSUGAR Beauty

^ This first pic was more me, except the lips unless it was 2 am and I had drank/kissed it all off, though stains (blotting off most fhe color) were popular/not matte. And I never did jack to my brows. They were/are like the girls in this pic. Many did pluck thin or do sperm brows.

Yes, Courtney love and some others (with makeup artists) had blending going on (little smoothing with figer or q tip) but most of the time people had smudged raccoon eyes and and looked like they slept in their makeup, because they did. You were up partying all night. She also got the lip colors wrong. Brown/bronze. Beige/Rose/light berry pinks (your lips but better nudes), brown reds were lighter and deep plums/wines. Idc about the Gwen pic, no one I knew would have been caught dead in a nude like that. (The wipe out your lip color/peachy nudes, really blinding & barbie pinks & purples... No!! Too 60's/80's). I despise those colors. If your lips looked pale and naked, its because you were not wearing anything (which was the day to day norm. i didn't wear makeup 85% of the time).

All the grunge hair tutorials crack me up too. I sometimes did crazy little braids but mostly it was, and still is, in it's natural state. Like the Drew B pic with pink hair or the girl in the black shirt with the acid washed jeans thay says... 80s/90s big hair. No hair spray. No teasing. Nothing cor frizz until it hit the shelves. Just mousse, scrunch, dry and put it in top knots/pony tails, buns, throw it around thru the day, sleep on it, wake up & go.
I used hot rollers and did French twists for rare special occasions.

I watched one more vid with Drew, for her Flower makeup line, last night. She was giving 90s tip, because she did a ton of makeup in the 90s. She only used her fingers. No crease color. Talked about how the face was kept matte with powder and people didn't really do the dewy/highlighted look (which she came from punk/rock/mall hair/alternative crowd). I can't even remember owning or seeing a matte lipstick then (lots of satin creams & use of lip liner) but I remember thinking eyeliner all the way around my eyes looked like crap, I hated liquid, and stuck with metling a pencil with a lighter. Also using your lipstick as a blush. She did say she missed the 90s brick red, and it is a hard color to find.

As far as accurateness goes... You did have a mix of slight Goth & Cholas still had the cure, suicidal tendencies, later TLC Gwen did more of Chola look. So did my friend that looked like Cher. She would spend 5 hours on her makeup. Do the darker lip liner, a lighter color inside, use a white eyeliner and blend for the center pout... I hated waiting on her to get ready. No head scarfs, etc. Just heavy makeup.

Want to try:

Classic Christmas Look (dig everything about that look)

Those Red Lips but more for the eyes, the 'understated Hollywood glam'.

Lunar Dust probably will get to first since I have a lot of purples.

3 good looks. The Christmas one is all around great. I love the lip color in the second. Nice pinky red.

"Tightlined" eyes is one of the best makeup techniques ever. I've been lining my lower water-line with a raisin color for years; I have green eyes and that color "contrasts" with them and makes them pop. However, I recently learned about tightlining the upper eyelids and boy, oh boy, does that make ALL the difference. For my upper lids, I use a charcoal black color. If you REALLY want your eyes to pop, try tightlining. Most black eyeliner pencils or pens or even the gel stuff you brush on work.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier.
^^ I love doing a tight line (and raisn colored liners). One of my favorite quick looks is a tightline, a bit of a dark brown mascara, white eyeliner (soft pencil) in the inner corner, center of the mobil lid and just under the brow bone. Melt it with the heat of your fingers and blend it in. you are done!

ETA: Considering that you like rasin colored liners... Estee Lauder recently came out wirh some beautiful soft pencils. They are a higher price point. Around $20 each. They do a have an absolutely beautiful color called Burgundy Suede. I picked it up and picked up the off white shade called Pearl and a nice deep but vibrant purple called Night Violet a bit later. Tons of deeper jewel tones Blues, purples, etc. Really nice texture.

It is a nice color! Just look at them closely. Some of the colors have 2 variations like a matte black called onyx and a black with shimmer called night diamond.
