Anyone use a Proactiv knockoff?

I used to use Proactiv and it really worked well but stopped because it was so expensive and the mail order thing is a pain. I've been eyeing some of the knock offs in the drugstores (AcneFree, Vita-C clear, even Loreal and Neutrogena have there own kits) and was wondering if anyone has tried any of these and had good results. I don't really have acne but my skin is very oily and I break out often.
Thanks!

Hi. I also used to use Proactiv for years-bp is the only thing that truly cleared up my skin-but it started to get a little irritating so I stopped. About a year ago I tried some of the knock offs-Acne Free, which you mentioned, and another one that I think I got at Walgreens. They were ok, but didn't compare. Mostly, the cleansers were never as exfoliating, and the repair lotions were actually gritty. I wouldn't have minded so much if the results were the same, but I just didn't think it was worth it. I try not to use bp products since they are aging, and I certainly ain't getting any younger, but I do keep some Proactiv on hand (I get it cheap off Ebay) for the occasional emergency days. Thanks to the black soap thread here, I just ordered some & I also like to use SAS acne kit(the t-zone serum is fantastic-no oil all day), salicylic acid wash(and use their actives to mix my own stuff, too, which has worked even better).
HTH-good luck
Thanks for your reply. I actually went out and bought the AcneFree and was not thrilled with it. I also wish the cleanser was exfoliating like the Proactive one and the lotion does feel gritty . I may try getting some Proactive off Ebay because I like the cleanser and the mask is good too.

I didn't know BP was aging . That stinks because I feel it is the only thing that actually clears up my skin the best. Salicylic acid dries up my pimples but to me it feels like BP actually prevents them from popping up in the first place.

I've been ready the black soap thread too and picked some up and am liking it but only use it once a day because it was drying me up (and I have oily skin). I've been also using a bit of jojoba oil after my BP at night and that seems to be really balancing out the oily/dry problem for me.

Check the ingred's -- they're not even remotely similar. One fake brand actually has salicylic acid instead of benzoly peroxide in the repair lotion. Another used harsh drying alcohol in their toner. Ugh. I did find though that the only product I really couldn't do without for my monthly PMS zit, is the repair lotion. And when I ran out, I bought Neutrogena's Spot On blemish (it's the same 2.5% strength of ProActiv) and I mix a tiny bit into my moisture and apply a thin layer. The results are identical for me. I also use Philosphy's On a Clear Day, which uses hydrogen peroxide in a cream & is really gentle & non-drying.

Benzoyl Peroxide is aging?!? That makes me extremely sad, because I swear by the stuff - it's the only thing that prevents/helps my horrid PMS breakouts!!

It isn't getting rid of the acne and the redness seems to be responding better to Aveeno ultra-calming moisturizer. Acne stuff with BP in it tends to do nothing for me. Salicylic Acid works slightly better. I am so aggravated with this stupid acne. I swear it is worse than when I was a teenager.

Acne Free works like magic.

Maybe it's aging because it dries out some people's skin ?
If you use one application of the lotion a day, it should help the drying problem.

Nothing else has worked for me. (drugstore-wise i mean)
Never tried ProActive.

I use a Meijer brand knockoff of Proactiv. It has almost identical ingredients and costs about $14.00 for the trio of cleanser, toner and lotion. I wish they sold the parts separately, because I use a different cleanser. I use the panoxyl bar soap. then the toner and lotion. I have subbed the toner for Neutrogena toner, the one in the white bottle with the blue square label on it...KWIM? But the lotion is pretty irreplaceable because it's the only one I have ever found with 2.5% BP. All the other ones are 10%BP which are very drying.
