primer!

the most popular one is from Smashbox ($36 at Sephora). Laura Geller Spackle is another name that pops up often ($21.50 at Sephora).

members here at NC swear by the Monistat Anti-Chafing gel, which costs about $3.00 for a tube and is mostly silicone like primers anyway.

most of them have the same ingredients... if they sold the anti-chafing gel in Canada, i'd get that.

but i have a primer from a Canadian company called Quo that cost half as much as the Smashbox stuff.

it's a mattifier and they can be interchangeable.

I think primers are mainly just silicone. plus things like scent and preservative. Mattifiers usually have powders that absorb oil (anything with "magnesium" or "silicate" in it)--in addition to silicones, etc. But yes, a lot of companies probably use them interchangeably.

BTW, I forgot to mention that many sunscreens formulated for the face are basically mattifying gels plus UV-blocking ingredients. In fact, the main reason I wear sunscreen is for its oil-controlling properties. Some sunscreens can "ball up" under makeup. I find that Neutrogena does this, but Aveeno's sunscreen is good.
