what really works for blackheads?
The little dark dots on my nose that you can see if you look closely. I wonder if, because I have light skin, it's just something I'll have to live with?
I use a face wash with salicylic acid, and I've been trying applying an acne cream to my nose as well to see if it clears up the blackheads. So far I've had little result except peeling on my nose.
Any suggestions? Does applying hydrogen peroxide help to bleach the little dots? (I heard that somewhere.) I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks, suburban... I have tried those before, but I didn't use them every day or anything. Should I see a difference immediately? I think I stopped using them because I couldn't see any results.
I'm thinking of trying Retin-A for this.

another vote for the Biore strips. i also find that using my home microdermabrasion kit works to clean them away too.

You should only use the 1x a week, not every day. I peeled that baby off and saw a mini-city of blackheads and fat tails from my pores. Check that your applying it correctly.

I've head a cheaper version of the pore strips is to put Elmers white glue on your nose in a thin layer and peel off when dry. Haven't tried it though!

Question: I have heard that toner prevents blackheads. Is this true?

The oil cleansing method and Biore strips got rid of my blackheads (that I've had since I was a teen). I still have giant pores, but at least they're clean! : )

What Biore strips do you guys use, the ultra deep cleaning or regular? The regular ones suck for me and don't get anything, while the ultra deep get maybe 7 or 8 at the most. What really helps for me is a toner with glycolic acid. I use the one from Proactiv.

I get a facial every so often and use a very gentle scrub ( Epicuren makes a great one) to try to keep that area clean.

getting a facial is the best to remove black heads, plus you can ask your beautician lots of questions.
Steaming the face opens the pores and makes it easy to remove black head. Cold water afterwards closes the pores again. Lotion is pretty much of no use, I find it finishes cleaning my face at night well, but as for skin benefits... hmm, don't think it does much. I prefer using a pure water spray instead of lotion.

I found an interesting thread on acne.org about blackhead strips.
http://www.acne.org/messageboard/A-l...s-t161371.html
I tried them years ago (Pond's - did not work) and never want to again.

Yeah, I keep reading about Elmer's glue being fabulous for blackhead, doing the job better than strips and so forth. Never tried it.
Anyway, seems obvious that it's not a good idea to exagerate whatever you do to the blackheads. The nose is a sensitive area, so it's better to treat it nicely.

the cheapest easiest thing that has worked fabulously so far as been
baking powder
not soda, powder!
take a bit with you in a container in the shower
and put some water in it, make a paste
it foams up (baking soda on the other hand, does not)
put it on your nose or forehead..where ever you have black heads
it stings a bit (and I don't have sensitive skin!)
but it makes them totally disappear, for me at least
you can give it a try and see

I've been in love with the Biore strips since I was 16 or 17. I love ripping them suckers off and seeing what comes up. Unfortuntely, I never think to buy them on a regular basis so they're a treat.
