Default Maintaining waxed brows

So I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time the other day and happened to luck out with a talented esthetician who did a really nice job.

She says her regulars average coming in every 4 weeks, and I think my hair grows at an average rate so I'll probably need another waxing around then too.

My only challenge is maintaining them, I went to get them waxed in the first place because I'm not that good at self-shaping them. I feel like I have to memorize how they are now to be able to tell what is stray. But maybe it won't be hard to tell because all the strays will just look obviously shorter at first.

For those of you that wax, how often do you need to do small touch ups by tweezing?

I got mine waxed about 6 weeks ago and am definitely ready for another. I didn't tweeze at all.

i tweeze as soon as i see something visible below the line of that perfect shape - usually at the outside corner for me. and i'll do a major touch-up on weekendsl

i don't get my brows waxed much any more because my skin reacts so badly to it these days.

I tweeze the strays until it gets too furry and I get too lazy, and then I suck it up and get waxed.

Am I the only one who actually likes getting waxed?

I don't get waxed because I don't want to deal with looking at the regrowth for weeks on end. I tweeze every day or every-other-day and get the new growth.

To the OP, couldn't you just tweeze anything growing back? You could probably maintain the shape for months that way.

RCW, I plan on doing that. Maybe it will be easy to tell what's new and I can just pluck it out. I'll see. I was imagining a scenerio where I wouldn't be sure if the hair is technically out of place or not but checking daily might prevent that. It would be cool to be able to completely maintain it that way.

Frazali, do you mean you enjoy the experience? At times it was painful for me and she says it's always hardest the first time, but overall it wasn't bad and I liked the end result a lot.

I guess I've been doing to for so long that the sting isn't that stingy and I know that I will like the end result so I look forward to it. It makes such a difference on your face.

i get welts around my brows that take days to go away - doesn't matter what method is used, even "mild" wax and sugaring leave me with the same result.

ergo, i try to avoid waxing as much as possible...

I always have the waxer put baby powder on the area that's going to be waxed, that way it doesn't stick to my skin, just the hair. I once had skin ripped off above my lip before I knew about the necessity of baby powder.

^^^ Yeah that's happened to me too. And now the skin there is just slightly darker, though no-one but mee seems to be able to see it. I wonder if IPL would take care of that too? Hmmm... *musing with intent*

Oops. Sorry for the guano. It isn't difficult to maintain. Like everybody said, just pluck anything that's not within the brows after you get it done. But definitely ask first about their idea of aesthetics and what they'd do with you. Some people do the really skinny brows best, some people like to specialize in thicker natural looking brows, etc.

I love getting my eyebrows waxed. It feels so clean afterwards. I do get lazy about going. I really need to make an effort to go more often. I tweeze in between visits.

I thought the point of waxing was that you don't have to mess with tweezing. If you have to do a bunch of maintenance, how is it different from tweezing? You go in every 4-6 weeks, but how often are you noticing strays coming? Rouqinne mentioned doing major touch-ups every weekend. Is this common?

I only pluck my brows every few days as it is. I probably should do more than that since I am a pretty hairy person and my hair grows pretty fast, but I don't worry about every little hair. I often forget about it until I notice my brows are getting shaggy - I need to get better about it. I've been thinking about waxing, but it seems awfully expensive, esp. if you're having re-growth. My skin is also somewhat sensitive. Also, don't you have to wait until your brows are completely grown in before waxing? Hmm, maybe I should stick with plucking.

I don't touch mine between waxes. I leave it to the experts. Plus I have so much hair plucking a few hairs doesn't work for me. I might mess it up. I go every three weeks for waxing.

FYI for those who hate waxing: the last two times I got my eyebrows professionally groomed, I had them threaded. Hurt like hell but the redness was minimal, no welts, no break outs. Plus the shape looks cleaner than waxing. I waxed for years though, and I always had terrible redness and break outs along my brow line.

Anyway, lately I've been very lazy with getting my eyebrows groomed (I would do it every 2 weeks when I'd get my nails done, nut this last time I went a couple of months in between), so I do a lot of tweezing in between. Every couple of days, just to get rid of random strays that are growing in in between my brows (I naturally have a unibrow) or near my arch (above and below).

how long does threading take?

there's a new salon near my office called Manicures & Martinis and they offer threading... i could get a martini while the threading is done to take care of the pain!

It doesn't take that long. I found it takes the same amount of time as it would with waxing. But, with my eyebrows (very thick and coarse), they would wax AND tweeze a bunch of hairs that were resistant to the wax AND trim. So with the threading they focus on getting all those hairs and then trim my brows down LOL. Anywhere between 5 and 10 minutes...but I guess thinner, finer brows may take less time...

I prefer threading over waxing. It's a more natural look. It does hurt a little but it's not a big deal imo. However, I just tweeze now...

No problem! The girls who thread work lightening quick so that could also be why they get the brows done quick. No need to scoop up wax, blow it a bit, spread it on, flatten the cloth on the face, tug real hard, repeat. And like Gemini13 said, they look more natural (and defined IMO; I get the most beautiful arched brows that I don't get w/ wax).
