2 Qs about lashes

For as long as clear mascara has been on the market, or as long as I've known about it, I've considered buying some, just for my top lashes since they're dark blond or light brown, darker than my bottom lashes & I don't want to thicken or darken them much more like brown mascara does. I guess I could also use it on my eyebrows.

Is this stuff just a gimmick?

Yesterday I had a very minor surgery that the eye doc had to cut away some eyelashes on both top lids. I think he said they'll start growing back in, in about a month. Or maybe he said they'll be completely grown back in, in about a month.

Which sound right to you?

Clear mascara has been around a long time. It's not a gimmick. I've been using it on my brows for at least 20 years. I don't like it very much on my lashes though. It looks whitish sometimes if you get a clump.

it will take about 3 months for your eyelashes to grow back in completely - that is a normal growth cycle.

there are some products on the market that claim to promote eyelash regrowth - Talike Eyelash Lipocils ($38 at Sephora), and Global Goddess Coconut Amla Lash & Brow Conditioner ($21 at Sephora).

other people recommend applying warm vitamin E oil to the area. other than drugs recommended for the purpose, i suspect you'll have to wait for the regrowth cycle. once you have something for them to grab on to, try individual lashes if you feel you really need them.

(speedy recovery, liz!)

RCW,

Is the "mascara" stiff on the eyebrow hairs?

rou,

I hope to have such, if I can remember to not rub my eyes. :OUCH:

When getting up this morning & then when in the shower I forgot!
Thanks to both of you for your help here & in other threads!

Vaseline as clear mascara

I like to use Vaseline on my eyelashes sometimes as a sort of clear mascara. I like it better than any clear mascara I've tried. It clumps the lashes together and makes them shine like they're wet. I also feel that it's not drying to my lashes like I think some products are. I just put a bit of Vaseline on my finger and run it over the lashes.
A potential issue I have not experienced: if you're wearing eyeliner it might smear it . . . (?)
Good luck, and swift healing!

clear mascara should feel a little bit like hairspray on eyebrows..

i have a lash tint from neutrogenea that i like.. it's not nearly as heavy as mascara.. you might want to give it a try..

I've never seen or heard of such a thing! I'll have to check out Walgreen's soon for this!

I got a cheap brand of clear mascara & will give that a try too.

Do they make it in brown? Or better yet, blond or blond-brown?

Black & black-brown are always too dark. I think even brown is too dark, but I'm lucky that's readily available in certain brands for cheap.

goldy 10-14-2007 03:49 PM

i can't remember if it comes in "colors" or if it is only available in one way..

i normally wear brown mascara, since black is too dark on me, and i find this is great, and it washes off with just water!

i don't have those extremely pale lashes so i'm not sure if it will work for you.. but it is very light, not heavy at all..

lazy loops 10-14-2007 05:24 PM

I just went to their website & see it's only in black. :(

would your local drugstore allow you to return it opened if you didn't like it? i know some store allow that..

maybe you can do that..

I second what kiniha said. I use vaseline on both my eyebrows and eyelashes!

Lazy loops, your avatar creeps me out! :confused5:

I tried clear mascara because I thought it would be easier on my contact lenses. When the regular stuff flakes off and gets in there, it's murder for my eyes. I got Maybelline Great Lash in clear. It doesn't bother my eyes, but it doesn't do much for my lashes, either. I gave up on mascara altogether.

Then my job is done!

I don't like the clear mascara. It felt like I was using nothing on my top lashes & brows. I guess it's true you get what you pay for. The store took it back.

Walgreen's will. There & Rite Aid are the only places I know of that sell Neutrogena. Maybe Target does, but I rarely check there for makeup since nobody has a big of a selection as the two noted drug stores.
