MAC online--FREE SHIPPING! Help with what to buy please!!

Rou? Anyone? I am trying to decide what to buy! What are the foundations like? I was going to try their primer, but it is sold out What is their Blot powder like? What about their concealers? They have so many different kinds, but I am leaning towards the studio finish. How do I pick which shade? I have some broken capillaries around my nose & I cover with concealer, but it doesn't last, I have tried a zillion kinds.

HALP please

i really LOVE my MAC foundation - i use Select SPF in the lightest shade available NW 15. this one is water-based and goes on in a sheer to medium feel so i can build it up where i need more with no problems.

i prefer blotting papers to any powders - even though they claim the blot powder doesn't build up, i don't like to add that much extra stuff to my face during the day.

the Studio Finish concealer is the one i use on my nose and it stays quite well. i have Select Cover-up for under my eyes.

this page helps explain MAC's foundation/concealer numbering system:

even though i am an NW by MAC's system, i usually use NC foundations in order to neutralize the red from broken capillaries in my skin.

you might want to consider Viva Glam 5 in both the lipstick and lipglass too!

hope this helps and let me know what you get! i'm going to check out the first holiday collection this afternoon.

Thanks Rou! That is very helpful!!

The foundation & concealer you suggested are actually the ones that I was leaning towards. I am pretty sure I should go with the NC as well, I am just not sure what number. I am a brunette & fairly pale, in foundations I usually go with a pale shade, but not the palest, maybe 1 or 2 shades darker. I am thinking maybe I should go with a 25?? Do you think I should get a 20 or a 30 in the concealer? There is no 25 and the 20 looks very light!! It is hard to tell based on the online pics. Do their shades tend to run darker then you would expect or lighter? I think I would rather have the concealer a little dark then to have it too light. Gosh it is hard to pick colours online!

Is the Select foundation creamy? I hate it when a foundation goes on & is not creamy and highlights any dry skin I might have. I like a smooth, creamy, slightly moisturizing foundation, even though I have oily skin, I also have dry patches. Maybe I should go with the Select Moistureblend??

HEE!! I already have the Viva Glam 5 lipstick and lipglass. Those were my very first purchase from MAC & it was based on something you had posted a while back. I totally LOVE them, the lipglass especially!!

Have you ever tried the Shadesticks? They look very nice too!!

MAC foundation shades are pretty true to skin tone, if you're very pale, stick with the lighter shades and don't go darker than 25 - once they're on, they will seem darker. i use loose powder in NC10.

you should have concealer lighter instead of darker, depending on the effect you want to create. if it's to hide something, go lighter. if it's for contour, go darker.

the Select SPF is NOT creamy. i found Moistureblend just disappeared into my skin and i wasn't able to build it up to a consistency i needed - and i'm in my late 40s. you'd think that would work for me...

i LOVE Shadesticks - i have Fresh Cement (pale taupe) and Shimmersand (pale rust). they are good on their own, or as bases for other colours. yesterday, i wore Shimmersand alone with lots of black mascara and purple eyeliner.

hth!

That is very helpful!!

Here is what I decided on:

Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer Shade: NC20
Select Moistureblend SPF 15 Shade: NC25
Blot Powder/Loose Shade: Medium
Shadestick Shade: Taupographic

I am especially excited about the shadestick & I wanted to buy one of nearly every colour, but I had to finally decide on one. Next time I am going to order the shimmersand.

I am so excited to get my order now!

Thanks so much for all your help Rou!!!

I would love to take advantage of the free shipping, and place my first order directly from the website. I got 2 sets of lipstick (4 lipsticks and 2 mini lipglass) a while back on Ebay. I love the lipsticks, but they are pale summer shades. I want some darker colors, but I find the color "swatches" on the web are very hard to decipher. Almost everything looks pinkish to me- could be my computer or my eyes! I really need warmer colors (earthtones always work best on me). I may just bite the bullet and take my chances, unless anyone has any
color recommendations for me....:-)
MAC is actually known for their brown-ish-pink shades...

Viva Glam 5 is darker but in a lustre formula, so it goes on sheer.

are you looking for a blue red, orange red, brownish...?

I'll start fresh later, and I'll probably pick all different colors
i got Antiquitease on the weekend and it is definitely NOT pinkish - it's an orange rust shade.

i find VG6 to be more pink than VG5. when i get home, i'll dig out my Charismatic and give you a description.

Charismatic is definitely a bronze shade, not pink!

if you're looking for something dark, try Chintz, Del Rio and O - a lot of members here rave about those colours (they're too dark for me).
