Nails of Steel!

I'm so excited! I have been taking biotin (2000 mcg) for about 3 months for my hair, but then about 4 weeks ago, per the recommendation of my MD, added Lysine (500 mg) for my nails and am amazed at how strong they are!

For me, this is almost miraculous, since I have had weak weak weak nails ever since I can remember - if I did manage to grow them out, they would get very bendy and chipped and eventually I would nibble them off (which is the cause of my weak weak weak nails, I am sure).

At 43, I finally feel like a grown up lady with my long elegant nails!
3A - fine, just above shoulder length, w/red color and highlights.

Routine: Scrunch with cloth diapers, then use Shellynot's clipping method. Diffuse a bit without touching hair. Leave clips in at least half and hour. Remove clips and air dry.

Day 2: Pineapple, no product.

I'm taking 2200 mcg of Biotin a day in my GNC Ultra Nourish-Hair, but it doesn't have Lysine. I've noticed a huge difference in my nails since using it.

Also, I have not been using nail polish --only vasoline and Burt's Bee's Lemon Cuticle Cream. I swear that nail polish was part of my problem with splitting. I think it blocks out moisture and makes my nails more brittle.

I'll have to try the Lysine......hmmm.......another trip to the drug store today.........

What brands do you take?

I also found that Solar Oil (Vit E., jojoba, and sweet almond) helps. I'm going to cut out the middle man and go to the co-op and buy the oils and put together my own for lots less.

Nail Tek also has a great clear treatment that moisturizes for nails. Years ago I used Develop 10 and had the MOST amazing nails...but they reformulated it and no workie anymore.
