MAC counters

This is kind of a weird topic ... maybe I'm not alone though.

So last year on my birthday I was treated to some purchases at a MAC counter. The guy was SUPER nice and gave me quite a good makeover without trying to push me to buy more stuff. In fact, he said something along the lines of how much he hates that, so he doesn't do it to his customers. Big brownie points there!

Now I live in a different state, and I'm scared to go to the MAC counter near me. I'm scared it'll be some *****y I'm-way-prettier-than-thou girl who'll push me to buy stuff and not help me get what I need. I need some foundation, but am totally dumb about foundation all together. I don't know what'll work well for me, nor do I have the ability to find the right shade for me. I was more tan last year and got Studio Fix NW25 which is now way too dark for me.

So I guess what I want to know is your experiences with people at MAC counters. Actually, specifically xcptnl have you gone to the Holyoke mall MAC counter?

And if anyone has suggestions on my foundation ignorance

I don't use Mac makeup, so can't help with selection, but...

Just go in with confidence. It's your money and your face. Don't be intimidated by the employees. Most makeup counter staff are happy to help, and just say no to anything you don't want.
I actually went yesterday, and she put on the Studio Fix in NW25 (what a coincidence)! She wrote it down on her card, told me to walk around and see how I felt, and also told me I might want to wait until I can check out the Mineral make up (that I mentioned in the other thread).

In other words, very low pressure, and she only put on what I asked her to put on. Which was kind of a bummer, because I wouldn't have minded a little color.

That's a great experience, gives me hopes The guy last year was like "well I think your friends are sick of waiting, but screw 'em - let's get some eyeshadow on you!" hahah

I really really really want foundation ... I'm trying to convince my boyf to drive me tomorrow ... I'm never closer than an hour from a MAC counter, but I guess that makes the trips more special!

i never had a bad experience with MAC, but i've heard of lots of people who have.

if anyone treats you badly, don't buy the stuff, put it down and walk away - they need the sales more than you need the attitude. and make sure you report rude sales staff to the regional manager or go on MAC's website and write a letter to them.

i have a release date of this week in my info - Feb 7th.

9 colours, supposedly medium-finish, but it can become more sheer depending on how much you buff. for some reason, they are being sold with a sponge-tip applicator.

the claim is that this is supposed to be better for dry skin than Bare Escentuals because it has wheat germ oil and vitamin e oil in it.

i don't buy into the hoopla about mineral foundation so i'm not in the least bit interested.

sorry i can't help more with that...

I've not used it much, but I sometimes think it won't be enough coverage or won't last long, plus the stuff I've used has dried out my skin even more than it already is ... but that's a whole different story. What is your recommendation for MAC foundations? I think I'm leaning more towards the Select Moistureblend SPF 15 because my skin tends to be dry. Liquid foundations scare me.

Sorry about all the questions, I just can't help but tap into your MAC knowledge

i don't believe all the hype about mineral makeup and i find it hard to use. a few years ago, i got a bunch of emails from people asking me to write about it and it got samples from half a dozen of the big mineral makeup companies and wasn't pleased with any of it.

i use Studio Fix Fluid myself, but i need the heavier coverage than Moistureblend. the Moistureblend is a lovely foundation.
