getting rid of a (deep) blackhead

does anyone have any remedy to getting rid of a blackhead that has burrowed under a little? i'm a little wary of those blackhead strips you get at the store..i've heard bad things about them, so i've stayed away from them.

i tried to kind of "pick out" another blackhead once and it erupted into a huge ugly zit that lasted for a LONG time and then left a scar, so i learned the hard way HOW NOT TO DO IT!

so what do you do? what can you do?

What have you heard about the pore strips? I haven't used them in forever, but I never knew there was anything to be wary about, so I'm curious.

On the rare occasion* I have a blackhead that won't clear on its own, I usually gently take one of those blackhead extractors to it — works very swiftly and without any trauma to the surrounding tissue.

I clean the extractor before and after with rubbing alcohol to avoid bringing any infection to the area.

* I used to get a lot of blackheads, especially around my nose, but I really don't anymore since I use products that keep my pores really clear. I have to do this to avoid all kinds of dermatological mayhem.

i've read that they only get the top portion of the blackhead and not the "root", and they can cause irritation. i haven't used them myself, so i don't really know.

i may look into trying an extractor though. i never even thought about that.

i've recently been trying to get my skin to look better, and i had a couple of residual blackheads (and hopefully won't be getting any or too many more!), one of which i got out easily, but the other (this baddy) that's all deep and evil. ;)

thanks for your suggestion, i'll look into that! :)

Those pore strips are damaging to the surrounding skin and they don't get the clog out completely, if at all.

If I get a blackhead, I just keep hitting it with salicylic acid several times a day, to get it to exfoliate itself within the pore. A few days of that is usually enough to get it dried up and it will usually pop right out if I give it a wee bit of pressure around the sides. If it doesn't yield to slight pressure, I stop and give it some more days of acid treatment.

What RCW said. Those pore strips are evil. I used them a couple of times...all they did was irritate my skin and make the blackheads blossom into full-on infected nastiness.

thanks for your info/suggestions. i've been putting s. acid on a few times a day, and it's starting to come out, but it's not ready for any pressure yet (it is REALLY deep), but i'm going to stick with this routine for a couple more days and then try it!
