I second the Weleda spray in Citrus as well. It keeps me funk free and citrus fresh!

funk butter (hope that's the right name)? Uh, I think I'd rather deal with b.o. than put something called that on my body. Who thinks these things up? Didn't they talk to a marketing team? PS, you get a LOT more sales if you DON'T call it funk butter!

That being said...I'm tempted...very tempted!

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

I get good odor control with the funk butter. I mix it with moisturizer or something (lately I used corn huskers lotion because it was there) and that helps reduce irritation.

But in the summer, I get a lot of wetness. So I was using the Adidas aluminum free which kept me drier but is now discontinued.

Tom's isn't working for me when it's warm. I guess I'll try the weleda.

LAVILIN USERS! I have questions.

Do you reapply after every shower?
Do you only soap up when you're plannng to reapply?
Is it okay to apply daily? Their website seems to say yes, the box says no. ???

On Oprah last week, the Eco lady said that 'Herbal Magic' roll on deodorant was one of the best.
Don't know anything about it or where to get it, but thought I'd share.

I use and Alvera Aloe Herbal Roll-On Deodorant

It keeps me dry and odor free all day. I apply once, let dry and reapply. I buy it from a health foods store.

ETA: I have used it daily for almost a year.

The Lavilin didn't work for me at all.

I will have to check this out...the Tom's didnt work for me. Well, I take that back - it cleared up the rash I had but I was smelly about midway through the day. So right now I am back to using a OTC product but I would like one that won't break me out.

Xcptnl,

I have tried a lot of them:

Jason
Kiss My Face
Tom's of Maine
Herbal Magic
Avalon
and several other brands.

I think it also helps that I use African black soap. The soap also seems to help with keeping odor away.

Thanks - good to know you have experience with the others as well!

I will check it out!

Well it's good to know I'm not the only one who's tried all these different concoctions with unsatisfactory results. I was starting to feel like a mutant sweat monster.

I usually apply the non-aluminum ones twice (at night and in the morning). The Adidas formula was not perfect by any means but I could live with it. These others, not so much. I might try some crazy recipes I have (based on using vodka)...or I'll finally make a bid for privacy at work and just go without.

Goodness no! The Adidas made me extra funky...did not agree with my body chemistry at all. And I had to used a body powder with them to keep the wetness away.

Some of the ones I tried were so strongly scented that they made me sneeze, and I could smell it all day. Another reason I really like my current brand - very softly scented.

Well.

I tried the Herbal Magic over 10 days. It was OK, but it contains baking soda and I got irritated skin.

I had great hopes for Nature de France's Le Stick, because their soap works so well for me, but it also contains enough baking soda to irritate. Le phooey.

I couldn't find Alvera locally, but discovered it in my parents' town. This would be a winner if it didn't contain triethanolamine (which they list as TEA). It's also irritating my skin! I might contact them about it, because as far as I can tell, this ingredient doesn't provide any deodorizing powers and it's not a preservative. Maybe they could use a less irritating substitute.

Believe it or not, I still have others to plow through.

how timely a topic! i'm going to give one more natural product a try: unrefined coconut oil.

i've been reading where people have success smoothing pure coconut oil under their arms as a long-lasting natural deodorant. something about the chemicals in the oil that inhibits the growth of the bacteria that causes the armpit odor.
