Advice please on skin care...

I started using proactive about 3 weeks ago. My skin has been fine but I just don't think it is for me. I don't like the drying feeling that I get and the flaky skin.
I would prefer to just use something I can get at the drugstore. I don't have bad acne, I just bought proactive wondering if it would help with my occasional breakouts.
I have tried cetaphil as it is supposed to be "great" but I just don't care for it... my face felt oilier than ever after using it.
I have combination skin if that helps with any recommendations

THANKS
Shannon

There's nothing at the drugstore that is good for your skin.

Proactive is a waste of money. It's supposed to be salicylic acid, but it's not even acidic. Cetaphil is one of the harshest facial cleansers out there, because it contains SLS.

I know Paula B. recently in one of her articles recommended a Neutrogena product as a good salicylic acid treatment. http://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Oil...7237474&sr=1-9

Not RCW but there are pH test strips from drug or health food stores, and there are even permanent appliances to test pH. I don't have any yet, but I would like to get some.
Stay away from Proactiv, it is a band aid product. It's designed to work at first, but the longer you use it the more of a toll the ingredients will take on your skin. Right up until your acne stops responding and gets worse. I used to use it and I was a believer! Three years later my ance was worse than it had ever been and my face was red and completely irritated. I would go to put the products on and my face would start to itch and burn. The ingredients in it are known skin irritants, things that deteriorate your skin over time.

Sorry if this offends anyone, it isn't intended to. But the last time I checked, acne sufferers were looking for something to heal their skin, not make it worse or actually harm their skin.

Look for something else. Since your skin is combination don't forget to moisturize with something that won't make the oily/acne prone areas worse. You may not actually need acne specific products, you might just need the right balance of products. Like a gentle cleanser to keep oil to a minimum, and a moisturizer that won't dry you out or cause a breakout. In the meantime, some pure aloe vera gel might help.
Proactive is a scam. It's no different from what you find on drugstore shelves, yet they charge ridiculous prices.

About two years ago I started using Avenno Positively Radiant cleansing pads (twice a week), Avenno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser (twice a day). Avenno also has a moisturizer that's great but I'm hooked on Ambi's Clean & Clear SPF 30 facial moisturizer. I saw results within two weeks and skin was clear within a month. I don't use anything else on my face besides that. Hope this helps.
