Hey 2poodles-I am interested in this cleanser as I am still fighting breakouts. Is this something that would work for someone with combo skin but also sensitive skin?

I am also going to check out the peel.

Today after looking the mirror I just felt so sad...I hate having breakouts at this age (probably more so because I did not have this type of issue all through my 30s and early 40s). It is like you feel people look at you differently - like how come you have acne at this age?? Hard to explain-but frustrating and it kills any self esteem I might muster up.

I absolutely love this cleansing bar! I have combo and sensitive skin, too, and it works great for me. I ordered the Pomega5 bar online, but it turns out that there's a similar one available at Whole Foods - it's designed for teenagers, but is also by Pomega5. I now have the "teen" bar in the shower and the original Pomega5 bar next to my sink. I have two different ones because I wash my face in two different places and it would be a nuisance to have to drag it back and forth....

And the peel is designed for "beginners" and is especially suitable for those with sensitive skin. I do find it "tingle-y" when I apply it, but that just makes me feel like it actually does something. Unfortunately I haven't been able to use it for more than a week because of poison ivy on my face. But as soon as that clears up a bit more, I'll start back on it.

Good luck with your skin - I can totally emphasize with you. Acne for a woman in her 40's is downright embarrassing and demoralizing. I truly hope I am rid of it - and that you are able to resolve your issues soon as well.

Thanks so much for the Whole Foods info!! I will try it out for sure - it cannot make anything any worse that is for sure.

Thanks for your kind words and VTmom too. It does help to know I am not alone in my struggles.

xcptnl i hope you're feeling better. i'm in my 30's but it's bad to have bad acne at any age!!! i agree that inflammation is the root of a lot of internal issues. i go back to diet changes being key to helping with inflammation. i've posted here many times about a book i'm reading called the clear skin diet. i highly recommend it. between my cleansing/peels/salicyclic acid and my dietary changes my skin is IMMENSELY better!

I agree, luvmylocs - keeping away from refined starches and sugary sweets has almost certainly helped my skin. And it's helped me to drop 9.5 pounds and counting....

I am going to be looking for that as well. I am horrible with eating 'good' so that might be a struggle for me but I can try, right? I have also made some positive changes recently due to some high cholesterol numbers so maybe some changes I have already made.

yes...baby steps but what helps one thing often helps others...like 2poodles mentioned, your waistline will thank you too!! there's a lot of research about how inflammation can make you look older and it's not good for your organs either. the book is research based with good take aways. they mention cutting out/reducing dairy. some people don't want to give that up but it makes me bloated so i really limit it and if i have a little every now and then it's okay but i'm so not a cheese on everything or milk daily girl and my body is grateful!

I read that Clear Skin Diet book as recommended by luvmylocs, too - very interesting read. Thanks, by the way, luvmylocs - that book and the lactic acid peel were two fantastic tips you gave me!

I just cannot win this battle. I must have washed my face at least a dozen times yesterday to get rid of the oil and sweat. I'm now out of moisturizer.
Overwashing your face can lead to more breakouts because your face will compensate the oil loss by making more oil. This leads to clogged pores. I've done my fair share of research on facial care, and have learned that it's best to wash your face 2x a day in lukewarm water and rinse with cold water to tighten the pores. (I sometimes wash mine 3x a day in the hot summer or when I feel my skin may have gotten dirty from touching my face a lot after a long day). It's also good to use an astringent (I love Sea Breeze astringent b/c it gets rid of makeup that my soap doesn't get!). Jojoba oil is a great night-time moisturizer because it has the closest resemblence to our skin's natural sebum, thus balancing out oil production. I personally can't use products with salicylic acid because they irritate my acne more, and I get no results with Benzoyl peroxide. However, when I do get a nasty pimple, I apply a diaper rash ointment that contains zinc to the spot and put a bandaid over it as an overnight treatment. It works beautifully. Zinc is supposed to help with acne from what I've heard. Google "Zinc and acne" and you'll learn a lot!
Hope this helps!

update: I ordered the lactic acid peel 2poodles and luvmylocs recommended and have used it twice. I'll be using it again tomorrow night. I really like it, and honestly, my skin tone has improved slightly already. I'm having some chin issues (i.e. breakout...surprise surprise), but nothing major. It's just pissin' me off. So here's to ya girls...thanx!

I'm so glad you like it, VTmom! Tonight will be my first time back on the peel since the poison ivy infestation, lol!

I have ordered the acne pore minimizer toner and the 40% lactic acid peel from muac. I have a pumpkin enzyme peel that I have not used that much because it says not to use on irritated skin and mine is kinda irritated. I will try it again if I can get things under control.

I also ordered from Aubrey Organics a sea buckthorn cleanser -that ingredient is supposed to help with roseaca as well.

I am planning on just trying the cleanser and toner at first to see what that does.

Good luck with that - rosacea sure complicates things....

i'm undecided on the toner. honestly neutrogena has a pore refining toner that i think works as good or better for me so when i run out i don't think i'll repurchase. let me know what you think.

i got 4 small pimples this week. i've been having coffee with creamer (dairy). i wonder if that's why. that's literally the only thing i've been doing differently over the past couple of weeks.

I will let you know on the toner.

It sounds like the dairy may be the culprit.

xcptnl, I hope you like your products from muac. I'm still liking the lactic acid peel. I'm almost afraid to say it, but my face is almost looking decent. I've tweaked my routine, yet again, and my chin looks better. I swear it's like the skin there is from a different planet. It drives me freakin' crazy, but I'm crossing my fingers and trying to be positive. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck!
