Hello Everyone!
My name is stazhia,I'm 20, a college kid and 6 months ago I decided to stop the perms! but now I'm conflicted with the decision to continue or to return to my perm..I know I'll have to eventually do the BC..and I'm a wreck.cause I've never had hair shorter than shoulder length.First I'm scared.lol.Scared of the result..scared of how I'll feel afterwards, scared of what ppl will think. I appreciate the support spring out from my friends but I'm just plain terrified.I've never really done anything drastic in my life.(in relation to my hair) but cut it too my shoulders, only to let it grow right back down my spine.lol.I would love some comments, tips, support, etc.

I am also having a hard time with my texture and know what type of curl I have which also leads in to the BC.The link above is something I tried one boring snow day from a hair magazine.I'm trying had to avoid a flat iron as well..though its been sitting in my bathroom begging to be touched.lol.I think this experiecne will dig and pull out a side of me I never knew existed.Something that not only holds beauty but confidence.I hope I can take the confidence in my hair a turn into some thing more.

Hi Stagey23 and welcome! My advice to you re. the transitioning is to hang on in there and not return to the perm which will only cause more damage in the long run. Having been there myself, I can promise that once your natural hair has grown out, you won't regret it. You'll find lots of helpful tips on the threads regarding your hair type, texture, porosity etc. together with useful articles on the home page. Enjoy!

You are beautiful!
Hello Stazhia (very beautiful name)!

I'm new too and having transitioned a couple of years ago I cannot but encourage you on your journey! Growing out the perm was the best thing I've ever done to my hair.

I think it was kind of cool to have two textures at the same time as it was growing out. I got many compliments especailly from friends who work in the fashion industry: they found my look edgy and fresh.

I trimmed my ends during transitioning about every 3-4 months, but managed to keep my hair at shoulder length while it grew out. However, I was seriously considering to cut my hair like Yasmine Sewell, who is my complete hair idol (google for pictures, her curly bob is absolutely stunning!) So it sure is possible to have short curly hair that is beautiful and stylish!

I wish you lots of strength for your transitioning and assure you that you won't regret it!
