Newbie!!

Hi,

My name is Christi and I just bought the Curly Girl book yesterday, read it, and went in search for some sulfate free shampoo. I ended up buying It's a Ten, I think. It said it was sulfate free.My whole life I have straightened my hair to try and get rid of these curls and my hair is so frizzy I don't know what to do with it now. I showered this morning with this shampoo and conditioned with some Tresemme Botanical conditioner like the video said to do. Then I applied some gel and let air dry. I did this at 6:30 this morning. It feels heavy and gross!! It's 11:15 and my hair still isn't completely dry. There is not alot of frizz but there is a little. Any suggestions?? I hate this heavy gross feeling!!!
I'm a newbie too... Flat-ironed for years then discovered my hair was wavy by accident because I started using a sulfate-free shampoo. The waves took a month or more to show up, so maybe give it some time? I'm re-reading the book every day, still trying to figure out a good routine for my hair... Just wanted to let you know you're not alone
Maybe you just got a gel that doesnt work for you. I found that somethings that work for others just dont work for me, and vise versa, sometimes I like things that dont work well on others' hair.

If the product is too heavy for you, it's too heavy. Maybe try a mouse? They are light, however you will be dealing with crunchy hair. If you read about SOTC (or Scrunching Out The Crunch), you can learn to battle this.

Some gels have crunchiness too, so maybe switch to a lighter gel, one that promotes volume, as this seems to be what you want?

...With gels, you have to watch out for hair drying out over time. Watch close and be ready to add extra moisture into your routine if you need to.

Leave in condishes, Deep Treatments (DTs), etc.

And look into sealants, to lock in that moisture!
