CG: Should we take density/thickness into account?
I mean, when it comes to buying styling products or whatever.
Because, I might be wrong here, but doesn't protein make hair thicker? A lot of people say that eating proteins makes people's hair grow in thicker and faster, and that henna has proteins in it that makes the hair look thicker after dying your hair in it.
So... with all of this, if you have thin hair: You need protein products.
If you have normal density: You can experiment with both proteins and moisture.
If you have high density: You need moisture products to help reduce any unnecessary volume in your hair.
Am I right or wrong here?

My hair is fine in texture but thick in density. I use protein constantly because it perks up my curls. I do think density is a factor in hair care products, but not exactly in the same way. For me, I find my hair's density definitely gives me more options because my hair doesn't get weighed down easily. I don't look for heavier products, but I don't try to avoid them, either.

Makes sense, your (fine) texture needs proteins while your thick density needs more moisture to help the unnecessary volume/frizz. You and I just need a total balance of both proteins and moisture, is all.
I mean, but think about it: Moisture lies the hair down and calms it down, while proteins blows it up (in a good way, lol) with more curls and such. I strongly believe those who have thin hair to look into proteins to make it thicker.

Protein definitely helps me. When I do a good PT I notice my hair feels much thicker and curlier. Texture wise my hair is thin an density wise it's thin-medium. I've been told I have a lot of hair, but I don't really see it. Even though my hair isn't that thick, I can still use a wide variety of products without getting weighed down.

For my hair it's not so cut and dry. I have fine hair that's fairly low density, but my hair has a regular FIT when I use strengthening proteins (hydrolyzed wheat, keratin, etc.), so I do my best to avoid them or at least only use products very sparingly that have them listed very llllow on the ingredients list. Softening proteins like silk protein, SAA, collagen, however, my hair does fine with.

Can you explain what you mean by strengthening versus softening in terms of protein?

Decided to bring this thread back. I just read somewhere that if you have high density (A LOT of hair on your head), it's best you use a gel to reduce volume. If you have low density, a hair mousse will help to volumize hair and create the illusion of more hair on your head.
Just sharing some info. I suppose for medium density hair they can use some kind of hair cream or a lighter gel...

Not exactly. I think it depends on your hair's properties.
Someone with finer hair but thicker density may not like protein, or vice versa.
And someone with coarser hair but lesser density may like protein, or vice versa.
I even heard about some people with fine hair and low density who doesn't like protein. So I guess it's different for each person, but generally I think you're right.
