Or Zaney Curl as my family likes to say, but Zurl is a fun word.
I live in Michigan and come from a very large Greek family -- curly hair is our boon to the world.
I'm 20 years old and been fighting my curly hair my entire life, except for the last 4 years. 4 years ago, I finally got my first haircut in my life (down to shoulder length) and decided that if I'm going to have curly hair, I may as well show it off and not constantly trap it in a braid anymore. My hair was 46 inches long before I got it cut. I'm never going back to that length, ever again.
I follow the CurlyGirl method (that book saved my sanity) but I come to this community in desperate need of help on getting a haircut.
It's a long story, but it involves a control-freak mother and the inexperience of never having a haircut my entire life (except once). And even that was just a 'cut' not a 'style'. You can see why I need help.
I've got some weird hair. After carefully perusing the reference images, I've decided I've got some mixed hair. It's 3a at the canopy/around the crown of my head and graduates to a nice 3c at the base of my neck. My hair IS 3 -- all levels of it, but is pretty shiny.
So, in short, I'm here to get help on how to fully treat my hair (not just use a good conditioner and some gel after showering) and get an actual hairstyle I can love. I'm so sick and tired of watching other girls on campus with curly hair just like mine and in a hassle-free, zero-barrett hairstyle and envying them madly. Hope you guys can help me out.
