Newbie 911

Type 3b curly. Hair breaking. Not sure where i need to go on this forum. I always just get out of the forum because i don't know where to go...
This time... I really need some help and desperate for guidance. Can someone help the newbie find her way?
Desparado!
Can someone call me?
Welcome, and I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with your hair.

If you haven't already, the first thing you should do is try to determine your hair properties (texture, porosity, etc.). These properties are much more important than curl pattern in finding good products for your hair. For more info on hair properties, this is a great reference:

When in doubt, posting questions in the General Discussion Forum should get you lots of replies and help.

Where do i go for general discussion post?
I have fine, porous hair from highlighting damage. Trying to grow out. Hair grows slowly, wash it about 1.5x's every 2 weeks. I am very embarrassed & very depressed with my hair now and no socializing because of this. My hair feels like straw, and breaking... I am scared to wash my hair even! I am 40 and beginnings of gray are sprouting daily. Trying to find a remedy. This has gone on for way too long. I have even tried the no poo method.
Vitamins... color or not to color? Trim or not to trim... products...protien... moisture....can't figure it out! Also.. cant figure if i'm using something badd!!!!!
Paul Mitchell Wax works?....
Under the Hair section, General Hair Discussion is the first forum listed. There are also a bunch of great stickies with tons of useful information. There's a lot to absorb here, so if you have time try to settle in and do some reading.

From what you're describing, it sounds like your hair could use both protein and moisture. Typically fine hair and high porosity hair both do very well with protein. I have fine hair and I do a full protein treatment once a week, plus use protein-heavy conditioners every time I cleanse my hair (I co-wash almost daily).

Have you tried (or considered) the CG (Curly Girl) method?

red the info...not sure weather or not to clarify with baking soda, acv , protein remedy and then moisturize? I just moisturized after i colored my roots. i think i may need protein? I'm scared....
In its most basic form, CG is eliminating sulfates and non-water-soluble silicones from your hair care routine.

According to Curly Girl book, all you need to do CG is a silicone-free conditioner and a gel. In real life, it often gets more complicated than that.

If you are currently using silicone products (ingredients that end in -cone, -conol, or -xane without a PPG or PEG in front of it) in your hair, you will need to do a final sulfate wash (make sure the shampoo is silicone-free).

I use a homemade PT created by one of the other members here (IAGirl). I like it because it's easy to make, and works well. It can also be easily modified to meet your individual needs:

I always suggest following protein with moisture, at least until you have a better idea of what your hair likes and doesn't like.

Will let you know. Really appreciate!
I'm mentally and emotionally exhausted. The important thing is that i will be able to walk out of my house and go to work tomorrow with a little hair hope. It's just the beginning!
Thank you for your help Corrine!
