Unhappy Is this Normal?

Hello All,
I need a bit of help. I've been growing my hair since the end of Dec. (The sides & the back since previously I had them shaved off)
The reason I shaved the sides & the back is b/c I had a problem area in the middle of my hair.. it was breaking off badly. As my hair is growing back I see that I continue to have the same problem.. The middle of the back of my hair is growing at a slower rate & it's breaking off. Why? I don't know.. I can say.. I've had my hair figured out for about a month now.. I noticed I needed more protein, I've been co-washing & really trying to moisturize my hair. The middle of my hair is an inch (no much for me to have been growing it out since Dec.) The left side of my hair is a mixture of 2 and 2 1/2 inches & the right side, which grows as it is supposed to is 3 to 3 1/2 inches. I would really like to know why the middle of my hair is not growing as it should or breaking off so. I believe I have 4a hair (I'm not really sure) I know it's extremely coily & I have a lot of shrinkage in the front which appears to be like 2 1/2 inches but is actually more around 6 1/2 inches. I would really appreciate if anyone had any tips to help with moisture retention (I do notice on my longer hair I don't have a big problem with moisture retention) & growing my hair & or preventing breakage in the middle of my head. (I have a profile pic up if you would like to look and tell me what you think my hair type is. (There are more pics on my fb.com/missdannilittle if that helps as well.) Thanks Naturally Curly Girls :0)

The first thing someone will tell you is to figure out porosity, elasticity, density, etc... I know there are a lot of good threads that other people can post. I also like Live Curly Live Free - Home. I was wondering though, since it's one side and the back, what is that area being exposed to that is different than your other side? Is it possible that you sleep on that hair all the time which causes it to get tangled and break? Just a few thoughts! I'm sure there are a ton of people who will actually know what's going on.

Products loving my hair:
Co-Wash/LI/RO: DC One Condition
Gel: KCCC, BC Curl Enhancing Cream, DC AnGel

Moisture loving, oil and protein hating (though it tolerates some in products).

Thanks for responding.. I think I've figured it out.. I was having problems with moisture retention so, I've been deep conditioning more & doing oil treatments.. this has seemed to help with the breakage.. I finally see growth.. it was 1/2 and inch now it's an inch!! I've also been applying products with protein & my hair seems to love it!! :0)
