My name is Lorey,
I'm 25 and I've hated my hair since my mom cut it when I was 5 years old because of a lice epidemic at my school. She'd use RID and take care of it, send me to school and I'd come back with it again, or so she tells me.
My hair has never been the same, thats when I started using gel, moose and hairspray to tame the frizz. I was growing up in Puerto Rico, so humidity is like prone there and its hot to boot.
I was never taught to care for my curls and fried my hair for years using every bad thing I could just to try to tame the freaking thing. Well a few years ago I went to a Hair Cuttery and the stylist that took care of me knew a little about curly hair because her daughter was half spanish she had to learn. So she recommended Curls Rock from T.G.I. I think. and my curls bounced up! I was thrilled, however I still had a little bit of crunch because I was using too much to combat the humidity of Florida (where I live now).
Today, I learned about CG. I CO washed my hair and then used a little Aragon oil afterward, because my hair really needed it. then used Queen Helene's Royal Curl which is a shaping cream I got from Whole Foods. My hair was supper curly and soft! Which is what I've always wanted but never had a clue what to do for it.
I'm currently growing my hair out after having cut over 11 inches two years ago for charity. I'm taking Biotin and waiting impatiently for it to grow!
I took a second shower today after my head felt a little itchy and used the Lemon and Conditioner suggestion I read here on the boards. As I type my hair is sitting in the plop and feels really nice. I'm amazed at the difference I feel already in my hair.
I'm so glad I'm not alone anymore in this, I've always hated my hair while others loved it. Now that I'll be able to control it (hopefully), maybe my relationship with it will become an amiable one. (keep fingers crossed)
Once my hair grows out a few more inches, I'm going to have it styled with a stylist who knows curly hair and is recommended here on the site. I'm looking forward to embracing my curls now that I'm learning to understand them
