Plopping cuts down on drying time but doesn't completely dry your hair on its own. I plop as soon as I step out of the shower and leave it on for 15-30 minutes. Then I air dry or if I'm in a hurry, I use a diffuser. If I don't plop, my hair air dries in 4-5 hours. If I plop, I cut that time in half. There are many curlies who double-plop or overnight plop with great results. I find that my curls get funky if I leave them in a plop for too long. It takes some time and experimenting to find what will work best for you. Just don't expect your hair to get completely dry while you are wearing a damp cloth.
