What to use for final wash??

Hey all,

I've been CG (or i thought so) for a couple of months, however just realized that what i had used for my final wash had silicones in it.

Can anyone give me a few names of drugstore silicone free sulfate shampoos I can try?

The only reason i ask for a few is that most of y'all are in the US and unfortunately your neighbours up north don't get all the lovely brands you do!

Thank you!!

I used vo5 kiwi lime clarifying shampoo 78 cents at walmart

Depending on what you've been using to cleanse, you might not need to worry about a "final wash". If you're using a low-poo or a cleanser with coco betaine in it, the coco betaine will have removed the cones. If you still want to do the "final wash", I'd go with Delma's suggestion and get something cheap to use once. But if you want to continue using shampoo instead of just co-washing, I would suggest investing in a gentle shampoo that doesn't have sulfates but will still work to get rid of any leftover silicone in your hair.

I love the Shea Moisture line, specifically the Coconut & Hibiscus. They are all sulfate free, work great, and readily available at Walgreens and CVS. Some stores also carry the Nature's Gate (I get this at a local grocery store) and Burt's Bees shampoos (drugstores, Wal-Mart) - I think all the shampoos from both lines are sulfate free. I've personally found the Nature's Gate and Burt's Bees to be pretty strong so I prefer the Shea Moisture for regular use. You can also look for the Avalon Organics brand, which I've seen at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and CVS. Never tried that brand myself so I don't know how well it works, but the shampoos I've seen don't have sulfates. L'Oreal just came out with a cleansing conditioner here in the States, so you might check for that if you'd rather co-wash but want a conditioner with a "kick". Good luck!!

Vo5 has sulfates. If you're going CG you shouldn't use it. I love the Shea Moisture line (my favorite is the pink bottle - Coconut & Hibiscus). They are all sulfate free and work great. Some stores also carry the Nature's Gate shampoos, many of which are sulfate free. Burt's Bees shampoos are also sulfate free I believe - at least I know the volumizing one is. I've personally found the Nature's Gate and Burt's Bees to be pretty strong so I prefer the Shea Moisture. Also, you can try Avalon Organics. Sorry, you must have responded before I re-posted my edited response lol. Depending on what you've been using since the "final wash" you did, you might not need to use sulfates to get rid of the cones. Coco betaine will remove them too and you can find them in a lot of sulfate free shampoos. It might be worth looking for a sulfate free shampoo with this ingredient if you don't plan to strictly co-wash.

Yes it has sulfate a that's why I mentioned it because op had said she needed to have one last wash since she didn't realize she had been using cones .vo5 was my last sulfate poo to get rid o the crap on my hair before going cg.

My apologies Delma, my dyslexic brain misread the original post, which was why I went back and edited my response after realizing that my first post was not especially helpful. You guys are just too fast for me! Lol

Lol no problem I was just explaining myself

I couldn't find the VO5, but I did find Garnier Fructis Pure Clean & Neutrogena Anti-Residue. Will either of these work?

Never used the Neutrogena but looking at the ingredients, it should be ok. I used a Garnier shampoo for my sulfate wash when I started CG so that one will work too.
