Welcome! I can't imagine having straight hair that starts turning wavy- I've had curls my whole life and it still took me years to learn how to care for them.
If you haven't already, one of the first things you should do is determine your hair properties (texture, porosity, etc). These will be a huge help in finding the right products for your hair. Livecurlylivefree.com has a ton of info on this, plus lots of advice and other info. Finding a hair twin (someone who shares the same hair properties) can also be a big help because you can see what's working or not working for them. There's a thread on the 2s forum called Share Your Hair Biography- that's probably the easiest way to find a hair twin. Remember for this that curl pattern really doesn't matter as much as the other stuff (my hair twin and I have very different curl patterns but get almost identical results with products- if she likes something it's practically guaranteed that I will too).
As far as the Deva cleanser- I've found that the key with gentle cleansers is that they require a little more physical work. Focus on massaging your scalp really well while you're cleansing and also as you're rinsing the cleanser out. It can also be strange getting used to hair that doesn't squeak. We grow up believing in "squeaky clean" but squeaky clean is bad for hair because it means all of the moisture is stripped away. If you massage well as you cleanse and rinse, your hair will be clean, even though it doesn't squeak.
Good luck! I can't wait to hear more results!
