I wish I had found this forum two months ago!

I have 3A naturally curly hair that I have fought all my life. Two months ago I relaxed my hair with a chemical relaxer for African American hair. It totally ruined my hair. I cut off about 6 inches but now I have to wait for the rest to grow out before I can get my curls back. Wow, never thought I would be wishing for curls! I have decided to end the lifelong battle with frizz and bad hair days.

I live in the South and even on a "low" humidity day my hair is a mess. My hair always looks like a perm that is growing out. It doesn't curl nicely and in the front I look like I have grown horns out of my forehead.

Even though I won't have my curls back for a while I decided to start the Curly Girl treatment now to work on getting my hair healthy. I have been reading this forum for a few days now (hours on end!) and ordered the Devacurl no poo, the Con Wash, Light gel and Mister Right spray. I also bought the Catwalk Curls Rock.

My daughter is 17 and has very thick wavy hair. She always had thin straight hair until puberty kicked in. She deals with frizz too, so she is going to start on the CG method too.
Good luck with your new journey! This website is so helpful and addicting

Last night I shampooed for the last time. Today I did just the conditioner wash, rinsed and then added more conditioner and left it in. I used VO5 that I read about on here. I am SHOCKED! I have curls again. My daughter just walked by and said WOW.

These pictures are what my hair looks like right now. I am going to love being no-poo!

Your hair looks really nice! Welcome and good luck! I know so much about hair now since I've been lurking on this site (about 9 months now). It's a little ridiculous but for the first time I'm actually finding joy in my hair! It's fun and it's a part of myself that I now enjoy. I wish you all the best on your natural hair journey!

What can I use in my hair while waiting for my products to come in the mail? I'm using just the conditioner wash, and then leaving in a small amount of the same conditioner. I don't have any hair products that are -cone free. I have coconut oil and olive oil on hand, can I use those?

Is my hair considered a 3a?
Product selection is definitely best based on properties (texture, porosity, etc), rather than curl pattern, which can change with products and even weather. Livecurlylivefree.com has fantastic info for determining your hair properties. Once you know those, look for people with the same properties and see what they like- it will give you a great starting point. There's actually a thread in the 2s forum called "Share Your Hair Biography," which has tons of potential hair twins and product ideas.

Day 5. It's getting there. I can't wait for the relaxer to grow out.

Am I a 3a curl or 2c?

You can't identify your natural curl pattern until the relaxer grows out, more important is to work with your hair properties.

Can someone tell me if there is anything in this that makes it not CG safe?

Yeah! This was only $8.59 a GALLON! I'm going to try it as a co-wash.

Yes. Someone on another forum that I frequent said they use it. I found it at Sally's.
Day 8. I can see some of my curls coming back. I still have some parts that are straight from the relaxer. Strange how it seems to pick and choose which sections hold the relaxer and which ones will curl.
