Hi! I am Mary from Alabama and I have been straightening my hair for 14 years. It is dry, fried, broken and thin! I am tired of frying my hair so my resolution this year is to learn to love and embrace my curls by learning how to properly manage my hair. I read Curly Girl handbook and scheduled a DevaCut consultation and haircut (which is tomorrow...so excited)! I'm not sure of my hair type yet, But I think it's 2c/3a. Yesterday was day 1 of curly girl method. I cowashed with DC one condition and used AG re:coil to style. Today, I was running late to work, so I just re-wet and scrunched with a little more product. I am looking forward to seeing my hair become healthier and my curls more defined! Here are my sad before pictures.New to CG-imageuploadedbycurltalk1388692896.439470.jpgNew to CG-imageuploadedbycurltalk1388692912.185305.jpgNew to CG-imageuploadedbycurltalk1388692925.752910.jpg
Hi! I hope you're happy with your new Deva cut and that you'll be posting pictures of how it turned out.

I've been getting Deva cuts for over five years now, and wouldn't have my hair cut any other way. Like you, I have a mixed curl pattern, though with more extreme variances. I used to look like someone attacked me with a weedwacker when I had traditional cuts.
Peace,
Morgan

Thanks Morgan! I loved my first DevaCut! She just used a leave in conditioner to style and it left my hair soft and bouncy, not crunchy. I think in the summertime I'd have to use a gel, too, though. Here I am after the first cut! New to CG-imageuploadedbycurltalk1388870156.858672.jpg I don't see myself going back to "normal" haircuts after this!

Apparently there are no Deva certified stylists in TN. I know AL is a big place, but do you mind if I ask where you got yours cut. Please PM me if you don't want to post where you are publicly. Maybe it's too far away from me, but it can't hurt to ask. Your hair looks great.

Thanks! Sure, I'm from the Huntsville area and had my haircut at Shear Artistry in Madison. Beverly cut my hair but I think there are several certified DevaCut stylists there.

Thanks, ladies!! Glad to be here...I've learned so much already by just browsing through the forums.
Your haircut looks really nice! Enjoy your curls.

My recommendations for newbies are to read the Curly Girl Handbook (which you've already done) followed by the Live Curly Live Free e-book which goes into much more advanced curly hair care. I would also recommend getting a hair analysis from Goosefootprints on Etsy. After you know your hair properties (porosity, hair width, elasticity, density) you can start looking around the board for members with similar properties and see what products they are using and what they are doing.

Don't forget to check out the stickies on the boards for techniques and other useful info!
fine - low/normal porosity - medium density - normal elasticity.

Currently using:
Cowash: Cure Care diluted with water 1:1
RO: Cure Care, V05 Kiwi Lime
Styler: UFD CM (old formula), FSG + CNPF
PT: IAgirl's gelatine

Experimenting with: no guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, gelatin gel

Recent findings: my hair likes Cure Care diluted with water as a cowash; does NOT like guar h.c.!

iherb discount code: CFN646
Your hair looks very similar to mine and I think we're both 2b/c.

Another thing I was going to mention is don't be afraid to take suggestions from those with similar/same properties but different curl patterns. One of my "hair twins" has a much tighter curl pattern than I (3c) but our hair often reacts similarly to gels, shampoos etc. She is more advanced than I and has given me good product suggestions along the way.

I'm so jealous! I can't find anyone near me trained in curly hair. I'd love to get a devacut!
