So, I'm only thirteen and I haven't had much Experience with natural hair, but I've lived long enough ,with mines, to know a little something...

* Detangle hair with a detangling brush or comb and follow with fingers ( do this with a little tenderness )For all of my ladies out there!!! No? OK...

* Your natural hair with clarifying shampoo every two weeks and the other weeks just CO-WASH!!! ( ONE WEEK YOU CLARIFY. THE NEXT YOU CO WASH. It's just a pattern if you think about it...) I've been hearing and reading about the curly girl method and I find it kind of UN-sanitary... I mean at least wash your hair twice a month people!! But, seriously, you want to ONLY wash your hair twice ( 2x ) a month because you don't want to strip any of your natural hair.

* Next, is PROTECTING your hair...
I have a problem with this, also. My mom always tell me: Healthy Hair is ALWAYS better than Pretty hair. And I'm kind of taking it in slowly... Because No one has ever said something so meaningful an treasuring to me like that before ( SOBS ) LOL!!! But, that is true. After you washed it and conditioned it really good, That's when you need to:
1. OIL IT AND PUT IN A NICE AND TIGHT BUN - tie it up
2. OIL IT AND PUT IN MINI TWISTS - tie it up
3. OIL IT AND PUT IT IN A FLAT TWIST STYLE (all over) - tie it up
4. OIL IT YOURSELF AND INSTALL WEAVE : Poetic Justice Braids, Marley or Havana Twists, Faux locs, or just SEW-INS and Wigs!!!
5. OIL IT AND PUT IT IN BANTU KNOTS ( but not too tight ) AND BE DIFFERENT!!! GET A HEAD WRAP OR SCARF AND DO ONE OF THOSE STYLISH WRAP TECHNIQUES!!!

*LADIES OWN YOUR BEAUTY!* BECAUSE GOD MADE YOU...
BEAUTIFUL

You can still shampoo, or co-wash with products that don't use sulfates and have perfectly clean hair. It still counts as washing your hair. Sulfates are only need to remove silicones (hence why some people forgo silicones) and not necessary for clean hair. Your hair can be perfectly clean without them (I've been washing without sulfates for two years. I can assure you, my hair isn't dirty).

I'd also disagree with only washing your hair twice a month – total overkill IMO. Wash your hair whenever it needs it, whether that's twice a week or every day. Again, as long as you're not using stripping sulfates every day, it doesn't really make a difference. Co-washes and low-poos won't strip your hair, so you can use them however often you like.
3B. Med porosity. Med thickness. Med density.

Welcome!

I appreciate your sharing the tips that you have found that work best for your hair. Of course, everyone's hair is uniquely different genetically, which is why, individuals hair care regimens here do vary. But, it's all good, as long as one is doing what works best for their own hair, and it's own specific individual needs are being totally met.

I have no problems with a person's regimen, as long as their hair and scalp is thriving well off of it. As, there are a lot of individuals with beautiful heads of waves, curls, and coils here, that through trial and error, have been able to find a regimen that works best for them, whether they happen to be on the Curly Girl Method or not. I am totally okay with such, as well as how someone with natural hair, chooses to wear their hair too.

I think it's wonderful that you are taking such an interest in caring for for natural hair at 13 and that you are sharing your expertise and experiences.

As mentioned. CG doesn't mean you never shampoo but that you don't use sulfate shampoo. In fact Deva sells low poo. I am CG and I shampoo my hair at least once a week. Hair care is not just about your hair but also about your scalp. Some people have scalp conditions that cowashing alone or going extended time without shampoo does not work for them.

Yes, it's real. No, you can't touch it.
