HELP! Do I have curly hair? What type?

So I was told a few years ago that my hair was curly. I've been trying on/off to find ways to style it. I don't know if it's too short or if it's just wavy.

The curls don't seem to hold very long. I've tried adding gel and scrunching out but it doesn't seem to look that good. Can anyone help me?

I have medium thickness hair but not alot of it. It's usually greasy after 2 days. It generally falls flat pretty easy as well.

I have tried the curly girl method for wavy hair and this is what it ends up looking like. I'd really like to rock my waves if I can. To me though, they just look flat and bad.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

You definitely have the wave (and welcome to the wavy club!) It looks 2a to me right now.

Have you figured out your hair density/porosity? That's been a huge revelation for me in figuring out what my hair likes. Here's the link to figuring out your texture: Texture Typing 101

What products are you currently using? If your hair is feeling greasy, you might be getting buildup (which is easy to do with wavy/fine hair).

From the info it looks like I have low porosity and low density.

I use a sulfate free tressame shampoo. Suave naturals for condituoner. A curl activator spray and two different gels mixed together.

Then I diffuse my hair half way dry and let it air dry the rest of the way. Then I scrunch the crunch.
You've got a good routine going, so I'll share what has helped give me the most hold/definition in my curls.

I highly recommend plopping!
You can do this before diffusing, it has helped me get more consistent curls all around.

Also, a lot of wavies and those with fine hair have found that protein really helps give hair strength and hold. IAGirl's Gelatin Protein Treatment is often recommended. Just start easy and see how your hair likes it (short treatment, more diluted). You can also look for products that have more protein in them, like this list here (Can you tell I love this blog?)

I also use an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse once in a while to help remove product buildup that can weigh down my hair.

It's a very trial and error process to see what works best for your hair! I treat it like a science experiment and write down the results of each new method/product/DIY recipe I try. I'm a geek

textured hair has special care and styling needs based on its unique curl.To prevent dryness, concentrate your shampooing effort mostly on the scalp. After your scalp is good and clean then gently shampoo the ends of your hair
