Return of a wavy with accidental "styler" discovery

Hi everyone. I've been away a long time. After about 2 years of frustration, I gave up last fall on my increasingly stringy, poorly defined wavy hair, cut it off and started blow frying, again. Truthfully, I enjoyed my hair being dry and styled within 15 minutes (as opposed to 3 hours), not to mention the shine. As summer hits full force, I am beginning to remember all the reasons I hate blowing my hair dry. It takes so much effort and "sweat" equity.

During my return to straightened hair, I continued co-washing and stayed away from silicones. A few weeks ago as I contemplated going natural again, I decided to leave-in quite a lot of Tresemme Perfectly (un)Done conditioner as a deep treatment, with the intention of rinsing it out after 20-30 minutes. As my hair dried with the conditioner in, I noticed the waves were looking pretty luscious and ropey. As an experiment, I diffused it the rest of the way. When it was completely dry, I scrunched out the slight cast - it didn't take much effort, and looked as if my hair had returned to its childhood glory (when all I did was wash and condition). Three days later after pineappling at bedtime, it still looked good and hadn't developed much of a frizz halo. Was I on to something?

I have co-washed as usual every 2-3 days for about 3 weeks, and have used ONLY the conditioner as styler. I am more and more pleased with the results every day, as I experiment once again with methods. I'm not using a ton (maybe two teaspoons), but raking in enough that it feels and sounds "sea weedy". I can even see very faint, white streaks sometimes - no matter. It's drying nicely and looking pretty shiny. I'm going to ride this wave and see how it goes. I have always been frustrated by the crunchiness of gels, and could never find any styler that allowed my hair to be defined, yet soft. So far, this gives me the best feeling texture. It's a little producty, but no where near as untouchable as it was with gel.

For those of you worried about Perfectly (un)Done getting discontinued at any point (like all good Tresemme products), I have also tried leaving in the new Expert conditioner (the one with the coconuts on the label), and it works quite well, too. I don't know if the success is from the actual product or that my hair just responds well to conditioner as styler. Wavy hair is a mystery, even when you know your properties.

This pic is from around 2014
2b/3a fine, high density, medium porosity
No poo/Co-wash: Some generic dollar store thing (it's called Salle) or Tresseme Perfectly (un)Done
RO: Meh, not really. Sometimes Tresemme Expert deep conditioner
Styler: Tresemme Perfectly (un)Done
