Any Asian girls with natural curls?

Like Tree1Likes

Hi,
I'm so glad that I found this site. I'm Asian and I was born with thick and voluminous curly hair (I'm cursed!!). It's so hard for me to select a curly hairstyle that suits my face because I don't identify with the non Asian women with curly hair in magazines. That is, our face structure & features differ and what look goods on the models in the picture may not look good on me. Does anyone know where I can go to get pictures of Asian women with different natural curly hairstyles? I need a new hairdo!!

Thanks,

FlamingDaisy

I don't think I really looked at hairstyles for ideas on how to cut my hair. If it's a good stylist, he/she should be able to tell what would or wouldn't look good on you. For my last devacut, I just told the stylist that I wanted something to boost my waves, keep my length, and keep my bangs. She ended up giving me exactly what I wanted!

If you want pictures for ideas, I would just look at pictures of curls similar to yours and just block out the face. At least you'll have some ideas to present to the stylist and it can be modified to your taste.

I'm Asian...well half anyway, and I have curly hair. There arent that many Asians on the board...
I've been switching between short and long haircuts and I'm somewhere in between right now...just covering my neck. I'll try to get some current pictures up.
Oh me, me! *raises hand*

I'm half Chinese, and I have pretty darn curly 3b/c hair. People get confused when I say I'm Chinese because they're like, "but...your hair!". lol
3b/c...or thereabouts.

Asian girl here with naturally curly hair! I'm Filipino with big long spiral curls. Believe it or not, many of the Asian women I know have naturally wavy or curly hair. Strange, right?

Long or short, my hair looks best in very long layers. I tried a bob once and ended up looking like George Washington! LOL

I think it may be a Filipino thing to have curly hair.

I tend to prefer my hair longer. I wouldn't go any shorter than neck length. I had my hair short before, and it just didn't look right with my curls. But I didn't like my hair too long either. In between is good, with layers of course!

Boy, it really depends on the gel (and the weather, and the position of the stars, and what kind of mischief Britney Spears has gotten into).

fun fact: indigenous filipinos look like africans, including hair. i attribute my hair texture to my people's genes getting mixed w/ asian & european.

flamingdaisy, if you have access to a japanese bookstore, there are hair magazines there. try to find some issues from 2004-2006. perming was a massive trend during this time, though in recent magazines i still see waves in issues from last year and this year.
straight & wavy, thick & coarse
I'm Korean and have naturally curly hair and I found this site because I found out that Rusk no longer manufactures Curlsilk Cream. I think I'm going to cry

I need some product recommendations. I saw Miss Jessie's products, but they seem to be for African American hair only. Has anyone tried it for their non African American hair? If so, do you like it? Any other suggestions for a styling product much appreciated. Thanks.
welcome flamingdaisy!
we're glad you're here.

Korean! with naturally curly hair that I sadly hate...
I'm trying to learn how to deal with it instead of straightening it, but why is it so difficult???

Thai! I think my hair went under puberty because it used to be thick and pin straight. Now, it's a 2bc-ish. It was rather interesting getting to terms with this in middle school. I'm still trying to figure it out and I'm in my twenties.

Back in Thailand, hairstylists think I'm crazy to not want a blow-out or to straighten it. What blasphemy--an asian with curly hair lol

Curly Asians are not as rare as most people think. We'll never know how many they are though, because a lot of them straighten their hair.

I'm Indonesian and I can tell you that curls hair are not rare at all in Indonesia. There's also a good number of native Indonesians with kinky hair.
Edo Kondologit is a famous Indonesian singer with naturally kinky hair.

Here's an interesting article about a curly 100% Thai.
wavydaze likes this.
according to Fia's.
i am checking in here. i am chinese and my hair is always in a disaster state all season long. my hair is so damaged from all the blow drying, colouring and worst the rebonding (chemically straighten). i discovered co-washing recently and really am pleased with the result so far. my hair is naturally wavy all along but i always thought that it is a curse as i handled my hair wrongly thus always resulting in a frizzy damaged looking set of hair. when i went to asia, people thought that my hair is dry and damaged, kept telling me to do all sorts of hair treatment, of course nothing worked. now i am starting to learn to love my hair.
I think that the stereotype is that Asian or at least East Asians have straight hair, but I know of at least one relative who is from Asia who has curlier hair than I do.

Hey! Here I am! LOL

I'm part south asian, (my ancestors are jewish, somewhere from the middle east..) And everyone expects "arabics" or whatever to have straight hair & dark skin. But I break both of those rules.

Anyways. I figured I'd pop in. Just to let you gals know that your hair is beautiful!
