The New Girl
Hi All. I just signed up a minute ago. This is how new I am... my next relaxer appointment should be next Thursday, but I canceled it yesterday. I'm going for it. Yikes.
So I've been reading all the post and doing my homework, and I know the first thing I need to do walking away from the heat tools. We'll see.

Hello everyone!!
I have finally decided to try to embrace my curly hair. I have type 2 and type 3. I have been fighting the curls all my life. Over the summer, I decided I wasn't going to do it anymore. No more hours spent with the straightening iron. I have tried to follow the no-poo method. I have just started using some Carol's Daughter products. I like them okay, but I haven't noticed any big changes. My hair is really dry and it never feels soft. I can barely get a comb through it when it is wet. It is just a mess. Hopefully I will get some great info from the message boards!!

I'm new here but never posted....
I am posting because I need help.
I hate my hair.
It's 4a, collar bone length and impossibly tangled. I have been natural for 14 years. I started growing my hair out when I was 12 when there was no community support, no instruction manuals, no help...nothing. Now? lot's of help and nothing wrks for me. My hair has never gotten past BSL in the back and CBL in the front and by 2007 it broke off to the point where it was shoulder length and a constantly tangled mess. It was either loc it, perm it or cut it. so I cut it. started growing it back last year and everything was dandy until January this year when it reached the nape of my neck that my tangled dry hell returned. I have tried everything to keep my hair in a consistent healthy state.
I am contemplating a texturizer.
I am posting this because I need help. I am about to cry. I don't want to chemically alter my hair but I feel so ugly with it. and my scalp hurts.

Another New Girl
Hi! I just joined but I have stumbled across this site a few times before. I have begun to take care of my naturally curly hair. I have a type 2b-ish hair and hope to find new ways to make my hair shine

Hi all,
I have been browsing the internet in search of help with my transitioning and found myself returning to these boards time and time again for helpful tips. So, I decided to offically join.
I had my last relaxer in late April of this year and with the help of my sister (my hair care not so secret weapon) have been trying to go back to natural. Which as most of you know is not easy.
I find my one of my biggest problems has been determining my hair type. I see that a lot of places require you to select one but I just really can't tell what I am working with yet considering there is only about 3inches of virgin hair and the rest is still straight.
Is this a common issue among the newly transitioning? I am hoping to find some helpful posts on this matter

Hi to all from a Newbie
Hello everyone. Tired of just reading and decided to go for "interacting". Haven't yet given up my old "bad" products, but looking forward to finding a new look. I am really tired of my three looks. 1) Frizzed 2)Wet 3) Crunchy. All advice will be gladly accepted from what I hope will be new friends!

Finally
Well,
I am a newbie to naturallycurly.com and I am just excited that there is a website out there to help curly girls like myself!! (yeahh) I once rocked a perm, actually don't remember having natural curls when I was younger. I had the BC in 2007, but I have no idea on products or styles for my hair. I always get compliments on my hair, but I just want it to grow!
If naturallycurly could help me with this I will be so thankful. So excited to see all the things that can I do with my afro!
BTW: I have a BAA

Greetings from a longtime lurker!
Well lessee...I'm a 20 year old from Chesapeake, VA who now lives in Philadelphia, PA for school. I've tried a few other curly hair sites but the atmospheres on them weren't really all that so yeah...I have a pretty good sense of humor and I crack a lot of hit-and-miss jokes, so be warned.
I guess I should mention my hair I was getting relaxers in my hair since I was 6 The longest my hair's ever been was around armpit length. I have no idea what any of this BSL/MBL or whatever business is, so sorry about that. Anyways, I did a big chop in November of 2009, a year ago on Thanksgiving! Straightened my hair's neck length but I don't really like straightening it much (even though I hate the shrinkage more). I'm somewhere between 3c and 4a. None of the pictures I can really identify with, but it doesn't bother me. I know hair typing helps a lot of people find out what works for their hair, but I don't really need it.
Erm, I'm not good at this sort of thing...I like it here so far, and I consider myself to be pretty helpful in the natural hair care department soooo anyone who wants to talk sometime...can?...
I really like these smiley icons

Hey! How long you want to keep in braids during your "transition" depends on you. It's purpose is mainly for you to grow your hair out to a point you'd feel comfortable with its length while cutting off the relaxed ends. Some people wait a year, some people wait six months...it's all just about your wants.
And even though I'm new here I've been natural for over a year so the hair typing thing wasn't too bad...when it was shorter my curls were a lot more defined so I thought I was a 3c, but now that my hair's growing out I can see that I have s shaped curls and my hair's more poofy, thicker and the curls aren't as defined so I classify myself as a 4a. The only way it really helps is because it helps determine what products would would for you but honestly, you can figure that out on your own through trial-and-error. Hope I helped!

New and overwhelmed
Hello all! Not only am I new to being natural but this is my first time writing on a message board...so I hope I'm doing this right. I have been perm-free for a year and a half now. I've been wearing weaves taking a break for a few months in between by getting a keratin treatment and blowing my hair straight. I have always been a straight hair girl and afraid of the "natural" look. Seeing my hair now (almost all natural w/ about 2 inches of perm left) I am definately loving my natural curl pattern. I am really excited and want to try the wearing my hair curly but I'm also scared of how it will look on me. I have done a lot of research and asked close friends and the information is overwhelming to me. I have two main question is which is better to use between curly gel and curly styling creams? What are some inexspensive yet effective products I can buy from my local beauty supply store?
Hope someone can help!

leave-in and reduce shrinkage
Hi, I know what you mean about finding a good leave-in. I need one because I have frizz issues and I need something to soften my hair. I had been looking myself for something to reduce shrinkage in my curls. I dont like rock hard curls. But I do like a hold. I have heard good things about Uncle Funkys Daughter Products. Have you tried them??

New
I used relaxers all through high school but decided to go back to curly in December of my freshman year in college. It's almost been two years and my hair is almost completely grown out, which is awesome. I love how easy my hair is to style but I've been having issues with build-up so I'm researching the whole no-poo thing. Yesterday I did my first baking soda/ACV rinse and I can already tell there's a difference! I feel like I'm a 3b, and my biggest issue other than the build-up is that my hair is more kinky than spirally on top and super tight spirals underneath aside from a couple random chunks in the back that I have to force to curl.
Anyways, that's what brought me here, and I hope to find some great products that can help me keep my curly, red hair in check!

Longtime lurker saying hi
Hey everyone! I it's my first time posting but I've been natural for nearly eight years now. I got frustrated with the time it took to do my hair and chopped it off so now I am starting from scratch. I've gone from to , which was an adjustment, but it has helped me to fall in love with my hair again.
