Sometimes in life there are those lucky moments when awful disaster turns into good fortune.
This happened to me almost 5 years ago when a particular hair stylist
at a salon ruined my healthy, naturally curly hair by over processing it
with color, highlights and a glaze. Surely an awful disaster, to
say the least. I was devastated and desperate to find an experienced
curly hair specialist who might be able to rectify my situation. I was
in tears as I sat at my computer to begin my search for this magic
person I imagined in my mind.
To
my surprise, my online search allowed me to discover Mia at d. Sabrina
Salon in Fairfield, CT. My luck was evident just for the fact that Mia
was located only 30 minutes from where I live. I immediately called her
and explained that my natural curls now looked as if I had stuck my
finger in a light socket and I now had "fried" hair. She said, "Come
right over".
The rest of my story is pure good fortune.
Mia examined my hair and, being completely honest, gave me her
assessment....it would take a long time for me, once again, to have
healthy curls. I needed a great deal of patience and consistent visits
with Mia over the next 2 years for her to help the integrity of my curls
to return. A long process, however she promised me positive results. My
devotion to Mia started that very day.

I have been going to Mia for about a year now, and I am so grateful to all the reviewers below, whose sentiments I want to echo. Without them, I wouldn't have found Mia, and I would still hate my hair. Mia is a riot and fun to see each appointment. But the most important thing is that she made me feel better about my appearance in a very short time. My previous colorist had me using damaging products that clashed with my skin tone. Mia. Is. Amazing. I'm a woman of multiracial heritage (Black, Irish, Cape Verdean, and Native American) and I have ALWAYS struggled with my hair. My journey to Mia's chair was a long one, but well worth the wait. My 3c hair has always been thick, a bit unruly, bushy at times, and its own natural barometer. At 8 years old, my mom allowed me to get my first relaxer to tame the wild beast...and I loved it! It wasn't wash and wear hair, but I could whip it back and forth, and for once I looked a little more like the other girls at school. However, after nearly 20 years of chemical treatments, I had had enough and decided to go natural. I've tried several salons--some where I would get my hair cut, blown out, and flat ironed (which did not translate well into curly styles!), and others that specialized in curls--but not curls like mine. I just had my hair cut by Mia and it is fantastic! Not only was it a blast working with her, but she took time to explain why she did everything and showed me how to properly style my curls. They have never looked better! I have wavy hair and was afraid I was losing my curls, but with Mia's cut and style she brought them back to life. I have copious amounts of extremely tight curls, and she knew just what to do with them. I can't even count how many awful hair cuts I've had in the past. Mia is Fantastic and here's why: For the past seven years I have been going to the same stylist (not Mia) and I have moved to three different states in that time and have continued to see my stylist, taking road trips from three to six hours just for a haircut. The last two trips my stylist disappointed me. I think there was a comfort level that lead to too much of the stylist's own whim and creative ideas. After my last cut left me with an over grown mullet/rat tail look I decided that it was time for a change. I considered taking a road trip back to my stylist so the cut could be fixed but realized that I didn't have the time or patience. I found Mia on this site, after reading everyone's reviews I decided to make an appointment. Mia was able to fix my cut without chopping off all of my hair. She listened to my concerns and was able to empathize with me. I really like that she is a Curly Girl herself. I left the salon feeling very comfortable and have recommended Mia to my curly friends. Another great thing about Mia, she didn't push her products on me. At other salons I have left feeling forced into buying their products, spending way too much money on something that I end up throwing away. So before I went to see Mia, I wore my hair in a ponytail 95% of the time, the other 5% of the time I wore it half up.
Ever since Mia cut my hair, I've worn it down (down!!) 95% of the time. The other 5% this time was just because I was too lazy to do my hair that day. Even though "doing" my hair now takes only 5-10 min and it looks fab. I can't tell you the compliments I've had and how many people have said, "I never knew your hair was so curly!"

A good friend of mine referred me to Mia and I am eternally grateful! I was in search of a salon/stylist who specializes in cutting curly hair as the place I had gone to previously was thinning my hair out. My hair is curly and very fine and thin, but I have a lot of it, and it seemed like every hair stylist I went to cut my hair as if I had straight hair. Mia (THE CURLY HAIR GURU) was upfront with me on what I needed to do to get my hair looking its best. At the end of my first appointment, my hair looked GORGEOUS! Naturally Curly Girls, it's time to break up with your current stylist and go to Mia. I met with Mia a week ago and the change in my hair is like night and day. I am recovering from a 'bad' cut I got 6 months ago (we all know w/ curls... that could take forever to come back). However, I consulted with Mia, she assessed my problem areas and although could only trim minimal parts to try to even me out, she was able to coach me on how to do my hair, handle my curls and deal with my 'growing out' phase. I am so happy I went to her. I feel so much better about my hair already. And since going to her, my hair has never been so soft and looks healthy. I received compliments on it all week. She was excellent at demonstrating how to style my hair myself, and though it never looks quite as good when I do it, it comes out way better than it used to! Every time I leave the salon, I get compliments on my hair from friends and strangers. She is great!

Mia is amazing!! I'd been to another curly salon and was not happy with it at all so I decided to call Mia because of the reviews on this site. It was the best decision I could have made. She spent a lot of time with me and showed me how to maintain it on my own. I went for my first haircut back in May and it still looks great. Mia is the best thing that EVER happened to my hair! After having kids, my hair just would not curl. It seemed to be stuck in the middle of curly and straight. After 13 years of going to the same sytlist, it just got worse and worse. I was so desperate, I had her perm my hair. That was the biggest mistake! Finally, I was recommended to Mia. It took about 6 months to fix all the bad haircuts I had, but from the first day Mia cut my hair, it already looked 100% better. I cannot say enough about Mia. She is absolutely wonderful. I went to Mia after having had not 1 but 2 very bad haircuts. She was reccomended to me by a friend who was already a client of Mia's. When I went to Mia she told I had a "diva" cut. Let me just say I didn't look like a diva, I looked like a poodle. When I met with Mia for the first time she assured me that it was definitely fixable, but it would take some time. I have had 3 haircuts with Mia since then and my hair looks a million times better. My journey to Mia's chair was a long one, but well worth the wait. My 3c hair has always been thick, a bit unruly, bushy at times, and its own natural barometer. At 8 years old, my mom allowed me to get my first relaxer to tame the wild beast...and I loved it! It wasn't wash and wear hair, but I could whip it back and forth, and for once I looked a little more like the other girls at school. However, after nearly 20 years of chemical treatments, I had had enough and decided to go natural. I've tried several salons--some where I would get my hair cut, blown out, and flat ironed (which did not translate well into curly styles!), and others that specialized in curls--but not curls like mine. After a few disappointing curly haircuts at another salon, I turned to naturallycurly.com for help. I found D Sabrina Salon, and read all of the glowing reviews that Mia had received, but I was skeptical. There's curly hair, and then there's the "mixed girl's" curly hair that's got a bit of kink, a whole lot of frizz, and a lot of curly attitude. Desperate for a hair miracle, I finally made an appointment with Mia...and she did not disappointment! As soon as I sat in her chair, she looked at my hair and put my mind at ease saying "You're going to love how your hair comes out." After our consultation where she took her time to "diagnose" the sad current state of my hair, she gave me the absolute best haircut of my life and the products and skills to actually replicate what she did! I just had my hair cut by Mia and it is fantastic! Not only was it a blast working with her, but she took time to explain why she did everything and showed me how to properly style my curls. They have never looked better! I have wavy hair and was afraid I was losing my curls, but with Mia's cut and style she brought them back to life. Most importantly she listened to my concerns and responded directly to them. Nobody gets the same cut it's all about what's best for your curls. The best part is since she shared her styling secrets with me my hair looks great when I style it too, not just when I left the salon. She is wonderful!

I got my hair cut and styled by Mia a few weeks ago and I walked out actually feeling good about my hair for once. I have copious amounts of extremely tight curls, and she knew just what to do with them. I can't even count how many awful hair cuts I've had in the past. She did her best to repair the aftermath of my previous bad hair cut, and she gave me several tips on managing and styling my hair. She is a very talented and professional individual (and she doesn't BS). Definitely go see her, she knows what she's doing!

Mia is Fantastic and here's why: For the past seven years I have been going to the same stylist (not Mia) and I have moved to three different states in that time and have continued to see my stylist, taking road trips from three to six hours just for a haircut. The last two trips my stylist disappointed me. I think there was a comfort level that lead to too much of the stylist's own whim and creative ideas. After my last cut left me with an over grown mullet/rat tail look I decided that it was time for a change. I considered taking a road trip back to my stylist so the cut could be fixed but realized that I didn't have the time or patience. I found Mia on this site, after reading everyone's reviews I decided to make an appointment. Mia was able to fix my cut without chopping off all of my hair. She listened to my concerns and was able to empathize with me. I really like that she is a Curly Girl herself. I left the salon feeling very comfortable and have recommended Mia to my curly friends. Another great thing about Mia, she didn't push her products on me. At other salons I have left feeling forced into buying their products, spending way too much money on something that I end up throwing away. If you are a curly girl looking for a stylist who will listen, be honest, and truly understands curly hair, I would recommend you call Mia. You won't be disappointed.

So before I went to see Mia, I wore my hair in a ponytail 95% of the time, the other 5% of the time I wore it half up. Ever since Mia cut my hair, I've worn it down (down!!) 95% of the time. The other 5% this time was just because I was too lazy to do my hair that day. Even though "doing" my hair now takes only 5-10 min and it looks fab. I can't tell you the compliments I've had and how many people have said, "I never knew your hair was so curly!" Mia is a sweetheart and just an amazing, amazing hairstylist. GO see her!

A good friend of mine referred me to Mia and I am eternally grateful! I was in search of a salon/stylist who specializes in cutting curly hair as the place I had gone to previously was thinning my hair out. My hair is curly and very fine and thin, but I have a lot of it, and it seemed like every hair stylist I went to cut my hair as if I had straight hair. Mia (THE CURLY HAIR GURU) was upfront with me on what I needed to do to get my hair looking its best. At the end of my first appointment, my hair looked GORGEOUS! I had never seen my curls looking so great! She showed me exactly what to do, the products to use and different techniques. It also helps that Mia is so outgoing and friendly. All Hail Mia, the curly hair Goddess!!! I just had to add my thoughts to this site because everyday, when I style my hair, I think about Mia, and say that in my head. I am SO happy I started going to Mia back in December. My hair is 100 times better than it ever was my whole life, and I owe it all to her. Naturally Curly Girls, it's time to break up with your current stylist and go to Mia. I met with Mia a week ago and the change in my hair is like night and day. I am recovering from a 'bad' cut I got 6 months ago (we all know w/ curls... that could take forever to come back). However, I consulted with Mia, she assessed my problem areas and although could only trim minimal parts to try to even me out, she was able to coach me on how to do my hair, handle my curls and deal with my 'growing out' phase. I am so happy I went to her. I feel so much better about my hair already. And since going to her, my hair has never been so soft and looks healthy. I received compliments on it all week. So if your out there,looking for a savior for your curls, go see Mia. It is worth every bit of it.

I had my hair cut today by Mia and it has never looked better. For the first time in years, I actually like my curly hair. Mia took a lot of time showing me how to use products and manage my hair. I'm looking forward to seeing if I can make it look like she did. However, she has made herself very available should I have any problems so I am not worried. I very much recommend her and the salon. It is a very relaxing, friendly place to go. And finally a stylist who understands how to make curly hair (and my is very curly, fizzy, kinky -- the worst type of curly hair) beautiful.

Mia gave me my first curly cut, and I have now had my hair cut by her three times. She was excellent at demonstrating how to style my hair myself, and though it never looks quite as good when I do it, it comes out way better than it used to! Every time I leave the salon, I get compliments on my hair from friends and strangers. She is great! Also, Jason at D Sabrina is an amazing colorist, so you should book a color appointment with him before your curly cut. You won't regret it!

Mia is amazing!! I'd been to another curly salon and was not happy with it at all so I decided to call Mia because of the reviews on this site. It was the best decision I could have made. She spent a lot of time with me and showed me how to maintain it on my own. I went for my first haircut back in May and it still looks great. Not only is she super talented, she is a wonderful person. She clearly cares about what she does and the whole experience was great. Before Mia, I straightened my hair ALL the time. She went through the entire process of treating my curls and made them look fantastic. two days later, I went back and she led me through the process again, helping me with each step so that I could make my hair look almost as good as she did. It's been a month and I am thrilled with the way my curls look. They are silky, controlled, and frizz free. Heaven!

I experimented with different products and then I came across your website and reviews for Mia. I called her and set-up a consultation and was amazed at the time she spent with explaining what she would do to improve how it looked and recommended products and how to use them. Mia is a genius when it comes to curly hair….she works her magic so that my hair falls into curls instead of poofing into a frizzy mess. Mia works with the natural curl and texture of my hair instead of trying to make my hair do something it’s not meant to do. Mia is the best thing that EVER happened to my hair! After having kids, my hair just would not curl. It seemed to be stuck in the middle of curly and straight. After 13 years of going to the same sytlist, it just got worse and worse. I was so desperate, I had her perm my hair. That was the biggest mistake! Finally, I was recommended to Mia. It took about 6 months to fix all the bad haircuts I had, but from the first day Mia cut my hair, it already looked 100% better. I have been going to her for two years now and my hair looks the best it ever has. I never have a problem with my hair not curling anymore. She is always up on the new styles, trends and products. I cannot say enough about Mia. She is absolutely wonderful. I went to Mia after having had not 1 but 2 very bad haircuts. She was reccomended to me by a friend who was already a client of Mia's. When I went to Mia she told I had a "diva" cut. Let me just say I didn't look like a diva, I looked like a poodle. When I met with Mia for the first time she assured me that it was definitely fixable, but it would take some time. I have had 3 haircuts with Mia since then and my hair looks a million times better. I no longer look like a poobdle. I can actually feel comfortable wearing my hair down again. I am so thankful that I followed my friends advice and went to Mia. She is a wonderful stylist.

After 37 years, I have finally found someone to cut my curly hair. I always thought that I had a pretty good curly cut until I met Mia. After pregnancy, my hair changed completely and felt I needed a new sytlist. After checking out your website, I found Mia. She is an absolute sweetie, and since she has curly hair herself, she understands the struggles most of us face day to day. You can clearly see how much she enjoys cutting hair, and she is definitely very talented and knowledgeable.
