Had my first trip to Curl for a consultation with Teresa! She encouraged me to stay and have my hair washed and diffused by Tori so I have an idea on how to use the products. Gals... my curls have never looked so good! It was complicated, I'm not going to lie. But the instruction I received during the process and in an email I received when I got home was so helpful! They really want to help you get a salon quality style at home! Going back in a week for my first DevaCut and I CAN. NOT. WAIT!

Ok, seriously, Teresa truly understands curly hair. I have so much hair that is extremely curly that I could never even wear it all down. She absolutely transformed my curls into soft, defined ringlets with her awesome techniques and precise cut. I left with so many great tips on how to care for my hair. I have never once truly loved my hair after leaving a salon until my visit here. You will not be disappointed.

Based on the glowing reviews, I was initially very optimistic about my devacut with Teresa.  I had suffered a previous bad haircut and was hoping to have it cleaned up and looking for styling advice as well.  Teresa was very thorough with her instructions on how to properly wash and apply styling products to the hair, but she washed and then styled my hair her way before cutting it, which I thought was a little unorthodox based on previous devacuts I've had.  As a result, my hair was styled in a way that made it look much different from how I normally prefer to do it myself and the cut that followed (which wasn't much of a cut-just a few snips) didn't improve the overall appearance of my hair at all once I washed and styled it normally myself.  The style left me with hair that was caked with styling product and less curly than when I style it myself.  For what it's worth, I did get a discounted price on the cut since it wasn't really a true cut, but considering I ultimately paid for a just a wash and style, it was still very expensive.  I've had better results with other deva trained stylists who charge much less.  Also, Teresa told me she would follow up with detailed written instructions and product recommendations after the appointment, and she never did.

My process of taking care of my hair wasn't anything special, I just put some products in it and walk out the door. Going to see Teresa and learning how to take care of my curly hair was a great experience. I didn't just get my haircut I received a lesson on how to take care of my hair which is the best party. My natural curls stayed curly for a week without any re-curling.  She also sent me instructions on how to re-create what she did which was very helpful.  Wearing my hair curly without frizz or daily manipulation is great for the summer humidity, I can't wait to see what it looks like in the fall.  I highly recommend her, she takes her time and explains as she styles. Teresa took the time to look over how my curls naturally laid, and cut my hair dry. The result was amazing!

The information she gave me on how to deal with my particular kind of hair was invaluable. The products and styling techniques she used were easy for me to replicate myself! Teresa gives a great haircut. I moved to Philadelphia from NYC and had a few tries to find someone who  cuts curly hair well , after having been treated to the best at Devachan (the mother church of curly hair) for many years. Teresa is the one! She really knows curly hair and does an amazing job. I found her by stopping a woman whose curly cut I loved and asking the name of her stylist, and am so glad I did that. I have had two cuts so far and they have both been excellent. I have received so many compliments on my hair. Teresa is not afraid to take a lot of hair off, which is something I like. My hair grows quickly and I like to see that my is worth my money and my hair isn't going to get overgrown in two months. She gives detailed instruction on how to care for your curly hair, which is really important. She is absolutely as good as any Devachan stylist, and I don't think you will find much of that in the Philly area. The only drawback is that so far, I have not been taken on time and have had to wait 20-30 minutes from my scheduled appointment. We are going to work on that! It is worth going back. She's the real deal.

My experience with Teresa was overall positive. She is very warm, amicable, and talented. All of her clients that came through the door had curly hair and she clearly has a huge following. I went in for my first curly haircut ever. I've recently transitioned to curly and have straightened my hair for over 10 years. I shared my nervousness for the first curly cut, and explained that I wanted a trim and some shaping and that i'm was really trying to grow it out. I have 3a/3b hair. I asked her to go easy and not cut too much. I even showed pictures. I believe that Teresa did what she needed to do to give my curls some shape, life, and get the dead frizzy ends off, but I have to admit that it was much shorter than I anticipated or requested. I believe she took off 3-4 (curls stretched) inches, which for a curly is a bit traumatic. It's a layered curly bob now (due to the curl shrink) and doesn't hit my shoulders. I am enjoying the cut, but it's been a big adjustment. It's definitely a pretty haircut, and it's flattering, but it isn't exactly what I wanted or asked for. She did listen very intently to the products I used, and my techniques, and offered some suggestions which I appreciated. Again, I do like the cut and it was a positive salon experience, but I feel like i'm starting over in trying to grow it out due to the 'big chop'. I'm sure I would be in love with this haircut hands down had I gone in with a picture of a curly bob. It is growing on me - pun intended :)

I got the products I needed and went home.  For the first time in a long time, I wore my hair down and curly - and it looked great.  I washed it and followed Teresa's directions and it still looked great.  To me the sign of a great haircut and styling is when you get home and you can do it too so that it looks as good (almost) as when you left the salon!  And my hair does.  It has been a month and my results are still good!  I will definitely be a customer for life!

I have always had my hair cut in NYC at Deva, but since I moved to Philly, I wanted to find a place that knew how to cut curly hair there. I was nervous about having a new place cut my hair, but I heard from a co-worker that Mademoiselle was the place to go and that I HAD to have Teresa cut my hair. When I walked into the salon everyone was friendly and Teresa sat me down and asked about my hair routine. I appreciated her knowledge of a wide range of curly products and brands. I told her that Deva's One Condition made my face break out, so she suggested that we tried Kinky-Curly products (which I loved!) to style my hair for the cut that day. She made me feel completely comfortable and cut my hair like an absolute pro! She took her time and informed me about each step of the hair cutting/styling process, making sure that I was okay with everything. She gave me one the best hair cuts I have EVER had! I visited Teresa for the first time last week after reading her glowing reviews on this website. I was hoping for a decent "curly cut" but, being a cautious sort of person, didn't have excessively high expectations. From the moment I walked into the salon, this salon experience was different from any others I have had. First my dry hair was spritzed with "Mister Right" and I was seated under the dryer for 5-10 minutes. Then Teresa sat me in her chair and asked me about my hair as she ran her hair through my curls and examined them. She then proceeded to cut it dry and color it. After two washings with Lo-Poo, I returned to her chair and was told to bend forward and allow my dripping wet hair to hang down. Teresa then began her magic with One Condition, ArcAngel, and two diffusers which she used simultaneously. The result was the curliest, softest hair I have ever had! Several days later I received her email which detailed how I could properly care for my curls. Although I ultimately bought the DevaCurl products she used on me, I never felt any pressure to buy them while I was at the salon. Needless to say, I have been very pleased with the cut and color which Teresa gave me and definitely plan to return.

I have a chunk of hair above one shoulder that is several inches shorter than the rest of my hair, which looks awkward and quite ugly. I returned to have her fix this, and ultimately I think the problem was only made worse. I walked out of the salon the first time feeling great, but now completely regret this haircut. I went to Teresa several times (incl. for color), and every time she kept me waiting past my appointment time - not because she was cutting someone else's hair, but because she was eating and chatting with her coworkers. I'm the only person in my family with curly hair, so all my styling knowledge has come from trial and error. I went to Teresa after reading her copious reviews on this site. My visit was more of a curly hair 101 tutorial than a haircut. When I arrived she asked me questions about how I feel about my hair, what I want from it, and how I went about my styling up to that point. She had my hair washed, then she showed me the wet styling curly hair process (she uses the DevaCurl line) and how to apply the leave-in conditioner and gels to my hair. I'm usually adverse to piling on the product, but Teresa really knows what she is doing and so I waited to see what the result was. She half-dried my hair and then started the trim. I didn't want much length taken off and after she had retrained my curls they were much tighter and thus, shorter than before. I didn't feel like there was much of a cut done to my hair, but I didn't want anything extreme done to it either. Overall: Teresa is great for women who do not know where to start with their curly hair. Sometimes service providers run a little late, and as long as I am called in advance and not waiting in the salon, office, etc. that is usually ok. With that being said, everyone I have encountered at Mademoiselle Salon has been very friendly, welcoming, and extremely professional. To the previous reviewer: I think if you and your daughter have been going to a stylist for years, and a slip up, or mistake happens and you love the cut, why switch stylists? We are human, we all make mistakes and as long as it's NOT a mistake on YOUR HAIRCUT, forgive, and forget. Teresa is like a daughter to me so forgive me for my opinion. It is so hard to find a stylist who really understands curly hair. I mean REALLY knows what to do and how to cut it. Other stylists may be "Deva trained" but how many of them do we really trust? taken from my Yelp review: Have you ever had one of those haircuts that you love so much you can't stop looking at yourself in the mirror? One of those "best haircuts of my life" cuts? The "I knew my hair had potential but could never quite take it there" cuts? That's what I got from Theresa at Mademoiselle. I have curly hair and it needs the special touch of someone who knows curly hair. Enter Theresa. The first thing she did was ask about my hair, *listened* to what I said, and then proceeded to dry cut it. This is such a must because curly hair isn't the same when it's wet. Again, this is not straight hair (yet most hair stylists treat it the same). She snipped through each strand, judging it's health and determining where it should end. She then shampooed it (low poo, for those who follow the Curly Girl Method) and brought me back to the chair with dripping, wet hair. I leaned my head over as she finger combed it, put in conditioner and gel and then used a diffuser to dry it. I brought my head up and had this incredible mass of soft, bouncy curls. She placed the strands around my head and again took the scissors to the curls to make sure it all looked just right. All the while she educated me on the do's and don'ts of curly hair maintenance. I signed up for her to send me an email explaining what she had said. I generally don't spend more for my own cuts than my dog's (and, damn, dog haircuts are expensive) but this was so worth it. I left the salon and texted my friend, "so this is a $100 haircut and holy s#!t it's incredible!" Yes, that good.

She walked me through the process of all the products she used, answering all my questions along the way. No you-tube video could have done that. She even sent me home with a printout manual of everything she had done that day. As mentioned in posts before, she does cut hair dry and curl by curl, and this means that if hair is worn straight, the cut won't be even. The price for the cut (and the educational session) was $95, plus another $100 I spent on product, which is a lot for a college student but having struggled with my hair for two decades it was completely worth it. Especially because she is so lovely to work with.

I saw Teresa for the first time three weeks ago and am amazed at what a difference it has made for my hair! Teresa is the first stylist I have ever visited (and trust me, I have seen many) who really understands curly hair and what it is about. Though I felt that my curly hair was in pretty good shape before, Teresa was able to create curl, volume, and style for my hair in ways I never imagined possible! My curls have never been so free, full, and defined! The wonderful thing about an appointment with Teresa is that it is about so much more than the cut (which was great). She really takes the time to educate you about products and how to care for and style your hair. I think the product and styling tips that she gave me were probably even more valuable than the haircut. She even gives you written instructions to take home with you! Thanks to the time that she took with me, I am able to recreate fabulous hair at home. I was a little unsure if I was willing to spend the $95 to see Teresa, but trust me, it is worth it. It has been three weeks since my appointment and I am still getting almost daily compliments on my hair. So many of my coworkers have commented on the difference in my hair and how good it looks. One of them even told me that my hair "was the talk of the second floor!" :) Other curly-haired girls have asked me what products I use. When others are asking you what you do with your hair, you know you must be doing something right! If you have curly hair, you should definitely give Teresa a try. I'm so glad that I did! I had a great experience with her and with everyone at Mademoiselle, and I've never felt so wonderful about my curly hair!

I am so disappointed with my Deva cut and my experience at Mademoiselle with Teresa. I would rate it no better than the Hair Cuttery but about 8x more expensive. First, the salon was dirty and I had to sit in clipping from prior clients. It also did not seem as though the scissors/equipment had been sterilized in quite some time. That is gross. On to the cut, it seems okay but nothing special. I told Teresa that I wanted a style, not necessarily Deva, that would work with my active swimming (3x per week) lifestyle i.e. low maintenance, wash and go. Teresa explained that the cut is all about the product - $75 - and how it is applied. My hair is above shoulder length and she put about 1/10 of the bottle of Deva conditioner in it to leave in. Then globs of gel that is all meant to stay in for days and reactiviated daily with more product! Drying my hair took 25 minutes using a diffuser on high heat. I can't imagine this is good for my hair nor do I want this styling commitment every time I wash my hair. Once my hair was dried, I put my hands in my roots and could not move them because of all of the product! I felt dirty. When I got home my kids, parents and husband were horrified and they are always so, so gracious. My hair was like wearing a wig or dreadlocks, I just had to jump in the shower. Teresa either did not care or could not deviate from her routine to customize Deva for me, something she should be able to do with the price she charges. Since my cut, I have gone back to using non-Deva products and styling as usual and things are much better. In discussing this with friends, they have all had the same experience. None of us would go with either Teresa, the salon, or the Deva cut again.

WOW!!!!!!!That is what I have to start with - WOW!!!!! I have had naturally curly hair all my life and have been to a million stylists who never could quite work with my curl and would ALWAYS blow it out straight. I was just about to give up on my frizzy, out of control "curly" hair and get it straightened when I read about Theresa. I finally decided to give it a try and I BEG all of my curly hair friends, before you get it straightened out of frustration, PLEASE see Theresa first!!!!! For the first time in 30 plus years I have fallen in LOVE with my CURLS, yes, beautiful, bouncy, shiny curls. Curls that other hairdressers told me I would NEVER get so I should just straighten. I have been told I would never have nice curls, etc. etc. I am so HAPPY that Theresa proved everyone wrong! I can't thank her enough for what she has done to my hair and confidence, my husband, kids, neighbors, etc. LOVE my hair! If you have curly hair - you are doing yourself a disservice not to at least try Theresa. Everyone at Mademoiselle was so nice. I felt right at home. They gave me undivided attention and all worked together as a team, which I loved. They all truly seem to like and help one another out a great deal and also make you feel welcome. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I will see you again in 8 weeks! -Susan

I have a very busy life and need a style that is very low-maintenance. I moved to PA from NY several years ago. I was so attached to my previous stylist that I would go 6-8 months without a cut. When I would occasionally give in and go to someone local, I was never happy with the results, usually because the hairdresser would impose a straight hair "style" on to my wavy/curly/frizzy hair, assuming that I intended to "blow out" my curls. Yesterday I went to Mademoiselle Salon for a cut with Teresa. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. First of all, she really understands curly hair. Also, she is meticulous, but very down to earth. As she was cutting (dry) I could already see everything coming together and taking shape. When she was done, I was so happy I gave her a great big hug. I am excited to have found Teresa, and relieved that I no longer have to schlepp all the way to NYC for a fabulous curly hair cut.

I went to Teresa because I had read so many great reviews on here. I went into the appointment thinking my curls looked great but boy was I wrong. I was expecting to have each curl cut individually which didn't happen but the final result was still amazing. I had to get used to how much shorter it looked with the layers but my curls were the best I'd ever seen them. Teresa showed me exactly how to care for my curls and when I did that at home I got almost the same result. I have to spend more time styling my curls after showering than I used to but it's great how this cut gives me great second and thrid day hair without having to restyle. I would definitely recommend Teresa to everyone.

Back in December someone told me about the Deva cut and after months of deliberation I decided to try it out. All of my life I have hated my curly hair but over the last 4 years it has gotten even more curly. When I Googled Deva salons I found the Naturally Curly site and the salons closest to me. In order to do this I wanted to be informed and make an "educated" decision. So from there I read many reviews and made sure I selected a salon/stylist that had current reviews (within the year and not 2-3 years old). That lead me to Teresa and my research was worth it. I walked out saying to myself "Holy Crap I have curls and they look great!" On the way home I called the person that has been cutting my hair for the last 14+ years & who encouraged me to go for this type of cut. I told her how amazing the cut was and how soft it felt. Like the other people who have written in different reviews, Teresa took the time to educate me on how to take care of my hair and gave me a paper to take home so I wouldn't forget. As we all know any stylist makes your hair look great but the REAL test is when you have to do it on your own. The second day after my appointment it was a bit shakey but today I got it down a little bit better. I am amazed when I see my hair in the mirror. I wish I had known about this years ago but there is a time and place for everything!! I have gotten so many compliments and people want to know where I got such a great perm. My husband and kids love my new look. So thanks Teresa for the great work I would recommend her to anyone! You'll see me again!

I hadn't been able to have my hair cut in close to 2 years due to a severe illness. It was REALLY long. Kevin did A LOT of work cutting it and all with a smile and encouraging words. He was SO upbeat and enthusiastic. He maintained an awareness of some of my "special needs" from my condition without any need for me to remind him. Oh and did I say he gave me a FABULOUS cut? It looks amazing. I can't say enough good things about my experience. The staff was warm and welcoming and the environment of the salon was lovely. What a find! If you're looking for an extraordinary cut for your curls go to Mademoiselle salon & spa, you'll be so glad you did!

Teresa cut my hair while at Beans. It seems that unlike all but 1 of the other reviews here my experience was less than stellar. Not once but twice. My 1st appt. w/ her was to have my hair blown out straight and DISCUSS cutting my hair to show it's curls to their best potential. This was supposed to be a really nice treat for myself as I was preparing for DS1's 3rd Birthday party the follwing day and rarely got the opportunity to do something for myself. When I asked why they seemed to be prepping my hair for a cut when I was to be getting a blowout you could have about heard a pin drop in the place. Then I was asked why I would want to do that and was made to feel as if it were my fault that I was now cutting into the next persons time. I like to give 2nd chances especially as I'd read here that so many people had such wonderful experiences and everybody has a bad day so I kept the 2nd appt. that I'd already booked for a cut. Well I was 5 minutes late and I had an odd feeling walking through the door that they were probably talking about me. My cut was very uneven and what a previous reviewer said was wrong w/ her cut pretty much summed up everything wrong about mine. Maybe as a frumpy mom I wasn't deemed 'hip enough' to be treated better. I'm very glad so many of you got better treatment and better cuts - I know how hard it is.

I recently went to Mademoiselle for a hair cut. I have NEVER had a cut I was happy with and told Teresa my feelings. She went over everything that she was going to do before doing it and also taught me how to style my hair. She has been the only person I have gone to who actually made me smile when I saw the finished result. I went to Joseph once before and had a HORRIBLE experience. He is not only so crude and inappropriate, he also gave me a horrible cut. I was so upset with my hair and the amount of money I spent there. Teresa has made me realize that I do have beautiful curls, I just needed the right cut. She knew exactly what she was talking about and was reasonably priced. I have now found my salon that I have been telling everyone with curly hair, that they have to go here. I live in Philadelphia and from now on I will be traveling to Haverford for my hair cut. Thank you Teresa! She is sweet and very approachable, unlike Joseph who made some comments to me that made me feel so uncomfortable.

Teresa worked with me & helped me to transform my unruly, short, non-style (she called it a mullet) into long curly locks. I never thought I could have long hair, let alone hair that I actually love. Teresa introduced me to the Deva product line, helped me through the process of growing my hair, but more importantly she taught me to appreciate the curls that I have for so long tried to hide. I have recommended Teresa to numerous other people and apologize for being remiss and not posting my comments before today. She was able to produce more curl in my hair than I've ever seen -- so much so, that several people asked me if I had gotten a perm! Teresa also does an exceptionally good job with color. My color is long-lasting, vibrant and shiny. I'll definitely go back. Actually, I've decided that I like to have versatility in my hair -- curly one day, straight the next. I had my first appointment with Teresa for a cut on 10-13-07. She had the Devachan training by Lorraine Massey herself. Teresa cuts hair dry, curl by curl; this is the Deva method. If you aren't used to having your hair cut dry, it can be a little unnerving at first! I was mostly worried that it wouldn't look even when she was done. The Deva cut is by no means a precision cut, but rather is tailored to your curl pattern. If you go, show up with your hair styled in its normal curl formation so she can see how your hair naturally falls. I am growing my hair longer, and Teresa didn't cut into the length. She did add long layers, which is what I expected and wanted. After cutting, I had my color done. Then, Kevin washed and conditioned my hair. They sell and use Deva products and also Alterna products. Teresa is great at diffuser blowouts. She had me bend over with dripping wet hair; she applied ISO bouncy creme and Deva Angell, showing me exactly how much to use. She diffused upside down until my hair was almost dry, then had me lean back on my chair so she could do the back. I had serious volume and bounce when she was done, and my hair was way curlier than I thought possible. When I styled it myself, I was able to repeat what she did in the salon (ok, not as well but almost!) I did notice that on my left side, there is a layer that is shorter than on the right. I doesnt make a huge difference, but this is the kind of thing you may notice with a Deva cut. The way she cut it definitely enhances my curl much more than wearing a "straight" cut curly. So, I highly recommend Teresa. The salon is very close to my house, which is a plus for me, but it is expensive. $95 for the cut and $85 for the color. Teresa says you only need to get cut every 3 months, maybe longer.
