I was referred to Shanda from a friend, and had never met her previously. I spoke to her on the phone and told her what I was looking for - a dry cut for curly hair, no razor, and I wanted a scissor cut. I needed my hair blended in the front, because I had odd pieces that were longer than the rest of my hair. I am growing my hair out, so I didn't want any length taken off. I asked her if she would feel comfortable with this, and she said yes, and talked about curl shrinkage, etc so I figured she might know what she's doing. So I get there, and told her pretty much the same thing. I showed her the part of my hair that I needed to have cut, and I showed her a picture just for reference of how I wanted it blended, even though I thought it was pretty self-explanatory. I thought she understood what I wanted. She then mentioned that my hair looked really heavy, and before I knew what the heck she was doing, I looked up after a few chops and saw the thinning shears! My heart sank, as she did NOT tell me she was going to use thinning shears, she didn't ask my permission, nor did she tell me that she was even starting to cut my hair. She started in the BACK of my head! I told her I only needed the front part touched, so I'm not sure how that translated into thinning the entire bottom 2" of my hair without my permission. My mistake, I let her do her thing, since it was too late anyway - there was a chunk taken out of my hair. There was no method to her thinning at all - it was chop chop chop very fast in random places, and I could see a look in her face like she just hated my thick hair and needed it out of there. I still have flashbacks, it was like something out of a curly-haired nightmare. Now I'm stuck with extremely uneven hair that won't curl properly. I just got my hair healthy with the CG method, and now it looks damaged again. It's very frizzy and the ends stick out in the worst places imaginable, and I've lost my good curl. The only reason I didn't give her 1 star, is because she seems pretty knowledgeable with what kinds of products to use in curly hair, but she doesn't understand curly hair AT ALL!! I feel like she lied to me and said she understood just to get me in her chair. After she was done, she sprayed orange well water in my hair. Needless to say, I went home and showered. That's when I realized how much she butchered my hair, and I literally cried and didn't smile at all until I got it fixed with a Deva cut 3 days later.
