We regularly profess our love for all things Lupita here in the NaturallyCurly offices, but we can’t exactly publish Lupita articles every day (or can we, would you read them?”>. So when Lupita Nyong’o gave us a new look at her hair this week we went straight to hairstylist Larry Sims to get the scoop.
Larry told us “Lupita is growing out her natural hair so we wanted to showcase the growth and wave. We used the Smooth ‘N Shine Bodifying Mousse to define the curl and to create a combination of texture and definition. Then, of course, we cut it into its flattering shape.”
We don’t know for a fact that this is all Lupita’s natural hair in the photos, but either way we’re so here for it. If you have Type 4 hair similar to Lupita’s and want to try this style, we recommend doing a twist-out and using perm rods on the ends for volume and uniform definition. Some of our community’s favorite twist-out products are MyHoneyChild Twist Out Crème, Darcy’s Botanicals Avocado & Wild Plum Twisting Cream and As I Am Twist Defining Cream. The perm rods will also help you enhance your definition for third or fourth day hair if you find that your twist outs start to go flat later in the week.

Lupita is always the highlight of our night when it comes to awards nights, so we can’t wait to see what she and her stylist come up with next. We have a feeling she’ll continue to wow us, as Sims says “Lupita loves to change up her looks. She is a risk taker and trend setter.” Clearly she has been reading NaturallyCurly because just this week we declared Minnie Mouse ears to be the must-try trend before the end of summer. And voila, she’s dawning the ears.
