A co-worker had a baby. We all bought gifts, but no one has given them to her. I am no longer at that job, need money, and don't want to give her the gift anymore.

I have a good reason for not wanting to send the gift...she always trashed me behind my back really, really bad...weekly...for months (I overheard and she never knew about it). However, she trained me quite a bit at my job, and was nice about it. She answered my many questions...

Should I spend the gift card, or send it to her because it is the right thing to do? I'm never this mean spirited...
How long ago did you leave that job? When did she have the baby? Why hasn't anyone given her their gifts?

Obviously I need more information before I can comfortably tell you to spend the gift card yourself.

Assuming the gift card's only your contribution, keep it.

I left the job very recently. She's been gone over a month b/c she had complications with her pregnancy, and has decided not to return. The boss didn't expect her to leave so early, so we didn't bring in our gifts before she left. Everyone has been busy, so a get-together was never arranged.
I'd send a card. A really nice one telling her how much you appreciated the kindness she displayed to you while you were there. But I wouldn't send a gift.

I don't think it'd be mean of you to spend it yourself. Since you don't work there, you're not obligated to give her anything. Under those circumstances, I would only give the gift if I really liked the person, which you obviously don't. Enjoy!

Spend it! You're not at the job anyways, and it's not like you keep in touch as friends.
As long as your money paid for that card, I'd have no problem with you keeping it. Enjoy!
