The Instead Cup and sex **ADULT**

I just bought a box of these to try out. I've never used anything like this, but I'm going to see my BF for the first time in two weeks and I just got my period today (getting together Wednesday night). So, to avoid the "mess", I figured I'd give these a go. Here's my question, and it's a little stupid and a little gross....are there any issues with having sex with this thing in? I mean, are there any problems if the fluid goes back into the uterus (if that's even possible)? And how far down in the vagina does it sit? Not that my BF is gigantic, but he can up in there without a lot of effort on either one of our parts and I don't want him bumping it out of place and making a bigger mess than there would have been to begin with. I also don't want to lodge it against my cervix and then have a difficult time getting it out.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome!!! Thanks in advance!!!

(PS, I'm going to be away from my computer for a few hours, but I'll be back later tonight and I'll read what every one had to say...I'm not ignoring you!)

Sex may compress, move or displace the cup and you all may get a big surprise. Flow won't go back in your uterus but all over you and him. If you and he don't have a problem with sex during you period, why use anything?

We don't mind having sex during my period, I just don't like the mess of it all. He's the first man that I've ever been with that I don't mind having sex during my period, and it doesn't matter to him as long as he can shower afterwords. I hate getting blood on the sheets and it gets all over everything if it gets on his hands. Just makes me feel icky after, so I thought that maybe this would solve that "ick" factor.

Hmmm......the mess with the cup potentially becoming dislodged sounds much worse than the mess without it. Hmm....I may have to think this over a little more and run it past him. Not that I think he'll care. He's a man, so as long as he's getting some, that's all that really matters.

As long as you're not having a really heavy flow, it should work pretty well. The Instead Cup sits high, right against the cervix. The trick is if it fits you well. It doesn't fit all women, but you won't know til you try. There may be some residual blood on the lower part of canal, so it's best to insert it right after removing a tampon, which hopefully will make a fairly clear playing field. Good luck!

I hate the bloody-hands-on-the-sheets thing too...
I used to use my diaphragm for that purpose, but I don't know about the Instead cups.
Well I haven't used it for sex yet, but I tried one yesterday to see if I could get it in right and see if it worked just for flow. I couldn't feel it and it seemed to be working - but taking it out - ICK! It's worse than peeing in a cup at the doctors office and trying not to make a mess. I would never be able to use it unless I was certain I would be at home when I had to take it out because it's simply impossible to not make a mess.
Well, I will not be using it for sexual purposes because I will not be seeing my BF tomorrow. His schedule changed and he can't get out of work. I'm kind of reserved about trying it, especially with the potential mess of taking it out. I currently use tampons and a pad as a back-up (especially at night), and those really aren't messy. I'm not a fan of mess. Yuck.

They are hard to take out because the sit so high. I just started using a Diva cup and I think I like it better although it's not something you can where during sex.. The Instead cup never sat right inside me and always leaked. How about a regular diaphragm? Those are made not to dislodge.

Hmmm.....I've thought about getting a diaphram because I have an issue with going on the Pill with the hormones and all (just not a fan of putting that stuff into my body, especially since I'm 32, never been pregnant and we're talking about having kids in the next year or so). I guess I've heard enough horror stories about them not working well as birth control. But, if it works to control the mess when we have sex during my period, it may be worth considering. How expensive are they?

Diaphragms are $30-$50, plus the doctor fitting visit. That's expensive if you just want it for occasional period sex, but if you're using it for birth control, it's very cost effective, because they last for a couple years.

I had 100% success with diaphragms for about 20 years. Never an accident. They work better for period sex than Instead Cup too...because they fit better.
Diaphragms work great for period sex.

I used them for maybe 15 years too, and never had a pregnancy. Though I think I wasn't especially fertile.

quickcurl...any updates?
Oh....sorry for the lack of updating!! Although there really isn't anything to report. I brought it up with the man, and we decided that we'd prefer to deal with the expected mess than to be taken off guard by an unexpected mess that could potentially be bigger than the original mess. So I didn't use it, we just put a towel on the bed and things still went well. Very well.

Thanks for the update!
I know this is probably a dumb question (and I could probably look it up myself), but what is an Instead Cup?
