Advent sounds cool.

Are there any countries/locales that celebrate 12 days of Christmas? I've always wondered about that.

We do! The RC Church observes the 26th- Jan 6th (Epiphany) as the Christmas season. When we were little, we got to take a chocolate off the tree every day of Christmas.

yeah we celebrate the 12 days also, we don't take our tree down until then. And we do our gift exchange between out extended family on Christmas Eve at midnight, the little kids usually fall asleep and we wake them up , if I had to do it when I was little then they should too!! We usually go to the early mass that day. Santa still comes on Christmas morning also.

Ohhh, I celebrate Advent! I'm German, and my mom was born in Germany, so I've celebrated Advent my entire life. I even still get the calendar . And I also have the wreath, and sing the Advent song in German as I light a candle, one more for each week. And today Saint Nicolaus came

Victory!

Is your wreath purple?

Your house is gorgeous, by the way!

Having lived in Germany so long, we also celebrate St Nicolaus Tag! My son put his boots out last night!

What's the German song? I'd love to know it. We didn't learn that one.

Sure! Here's what we sing. I hope I spelled everything right; I'm fluent in German but I never really learned reading/writing, although I'm okay at it:

Advent, Advent, ein Lichtlein brennt
Erst eins, dann zwei, dann drei, dann vier,
dann steht das Christkind vor der Tür!

I think this is so much more spiritual and meaningful than "HURRYHURRY-BUYTHEBIGSCREENTV-RUN-THROUGH-THE-STORE-ON-CHRISTMAS-EVE-15-MINUTES-BEFORE-CLOSING-AND-GET-A-PACK OF BIC PENS-FOR-YOUR-BOSS'S MOTHER-BECAUSE-EVERYTHING ELSE IS WIPED OUT!!!".......

.......and then the inevitable letdown on December 26. I mean, I enjoy Christmas with my family (well, in-laws family, my family was Jehovahs Witness and celebrated nothing) but I really wish we could celebrate the holidays like that

Germans do Advent so beautifully!
I was in Darmstadt a couple of Decembers ago and the markets were so beautiful!

I think I understand that song! Cute! Is it:

Advent, Advent, a little light shines
First one, then two, then three, the foor
then the Christ child is standing in the door!

I think German is such a wonderful language.

Ooh, I had never heard of Advent. It sounds really nice. I can't believe I've never heard of it until now.

I love our house. The spindles are nice, but a pain to clean! lol
Poodle...that purple you see is part of the ribbon wrapped around the greenery of the wreath.

I do observe it but I've missed Mass the past two weeks due to illness and just haven't gotten into it this year.

I saw it too. Nice shade of purple and I like the evergreens around your stair rail.
