Default Mineral Makeup: color selection -- New Info! Help!

I know this is makeup, but that board doesn't get as much traffic.

I want to try the Everyday Minerals free kit but don't know which colors to choose. Their suggestions:
Quote:
I think you look perhaps one step darker than the Fair. We have a Fairly
Light Warm and a Fairly Light Neutral. You may also order one Fair and then
if the Fairly Light is too dark, you can mix it with the Fair to lighten it
up. I suggest you go with the semi-matte or intensive formulas.
Can you take a look at my pics and tell me which colors you think I should start with? I've been classified with cool tones, but pinks foundations don't look good on me. I have a slightly olive tone I think.

Suggestions for foundation color, formula, and blush colors appreciated! TIA!

I am WHITE and I can get away with either. You look like you have a bit more color. I think the fairly light should be okay.

Thanks.

Come on ladies! I know lots of you tried this. What colors did you get?

I have pink undertones, so the fairly lights were too yellow for me. I got fair and Medium and I just sprinkle a bit of medium into the fair. It's really hard to tell coloring from the pics though. I wish I could help more.

I agree with Geeky. I looked at the Curl Friends pix in your fotki and at least from the pictures it looks like you have some pink. I thought I was a "cool" but I definitely have pink going on and the light & fairly light did not work for me. I was using Medium Intensive. It does seem a little dark for the winter months, but when I mix it into my sunscreen (which is zinc based, so very white) it's fine. I'm also trying samples from MeowCosmetics right now which I like, for that one I seem to match the Himalayan line of foundation (my sample was 2-Light).

Very nice to see the pictures of you with PH & NetG & DarkAngel & someone else who I'm forgetting & whose feelings will be hurt! (apologies)

Did you get the cool ones then? I wouldn't want it too yellow either, it tends to get orangey on me.

You look like a fairly light neutral to me. I have similar coloring, although I have light eyes.

Try to match your neck, not necessarily your face, because the contrast between face and neck is what shows up to other people. I have some pink/red in my face, so technically I'm a cool. But cool foundations make me look even pinker/redder, and why would I want to do that? I'd rather go neutral and neutralize those red tones a bit and match my neck.

When I ordered they did not have all the color choices they have now. THere was one fair, one fairly light, etc.

That could be good or bad. Not enough choices or too many!

Did anyone try the blush sample? What color did you try?

I guess I should stay neutral then. Maybe I'll email them again and see which of the neutrals are less yellow? Or get a neutral and a cool and mix them.

I got Apple blush and lurve it! I would recommend you get a cool and a neutral to compare.

Have you ordered the samples? That company used to give very generous samples. I actually requested two sets. Never could get a color I liked.

That's what I'm trying to do, get ideas for the sampler kit.

I was looking at my fotki pics and in most of them my face does look pink. I think I was wearing makeup in all, so it could be the makeup. That's why I think I need to stay away from anything too pink. My neck looks more olive/yellow though.

The apple blush looks nice, not too pink or dark.

So I went to the Ulta store today and tried some mineral makeup. If it helps for color, I was matched with Bare Escentuals in Light, and PUR Minerals in Golden Medium.

Has anyone used those that now uses EM? Does that help?

BTW, I liked how those 2 products looked and felt. I'm hoping to like the EM better (cheaper!)

Light has golden undertones. SO I think you should order a warm and possibly a neutral shade from Everyday minerals.

Having used both BE and Everyday Minerals, I prefer the EM. You don't have to buff it as long and I think it looks a touch more natural.

Thanks geeky. Now I'm thinking of the Light Warm and Light Neutral foundations. And the Light concealer... and the Apple blush. The Apple isn't too shimmery, is it?

Geez, I'm hoping I really love this stuff after all the trouble.

Apple is not shimmery at all. Just a lovely, natural, warm pink.

Thanks again geeky. I think I'm going with the above (last choices).
