Default Spinoff: Your best holiday gift ever?

The worst gifts are getting pretty pathetic -- plain gloves, water bottle, re-gifted awfulness.

What made you jump up and down?

(A Daisy air rifle? You'll shoot your eye out.)

One of the best Christmas gifts I have ever gotten was this little "candy machine" I so wanted when I was a kid. You filled it up with candy and then it almost worked as the ones where you put coins in it to get a few pieces. You didn't have to put coins in it though.
That was a good christmas. :P

This is going to be more pathetic than the worst gifts thread

My second Christmas on the ship was really hard. I had just broken up with the (at least I thought at the time!) love of my life and was terribly homesick. My parents sent me a box with Easy Mac, dill pickle chips, Coffee Crisp bars, a stuffed Rottweiler, a ton of free crap that came in beer cases and all these silly little trinkets that family had picked up for me. It was all so pathetic, but stuff I really missed from home and that meant a lot to me! Everyone laughed at me and listened to my terribly long & boring stories about the stuff, but it meant so much to me! That was an awesome Christmas

The past, present & future 3 stone diamond ring DH gave me the yr I was pregnant. It was the last present I opened & he put the ring box in a larger box w/ lots of tissue. I wasn't expecting it & was speechless (and in tears too!)

My first art set, easel oil pains, water color, canvases, the whole 9 yards. That was when I was oh 15 or so. I'd been askign for that since I was 5

Dunno though last year was pretty awesome, I got xbox 360 and a horror game and a killing game. I'm still busy with those two. I literally screamed and spazzed

As the youngest of three, I used to get sooooo tired of wearing hand-me-downs and receiving "practical" gifts for Christmas and my birthday. But I also understood it was because we were a working-class family and money was tight. One Christmas when I was about 7 or 8, one of those mailing tubes came in the mail addressed to ME! You have to understand I'm 47, so it was a pretty big deal to get something in the mail back then in the stone age.

Anyway, my mom called my godmother (my godparents lived across the street -- they were a childless couple, so sweet and kind and funny), and she came over so she could be there when I opened it since it was from her and my godfather. They helped me take the end cap off, and when I turned it upside down and shook it, this shower of peppermint candies came out -- the little round red & white ones in cellophane wrappers. My eyes must have been big as dollars! A ton of candy, and it was all mine! But wait, there's more!

My godmother told me to shake the tube again, that there was something else in there. So I shook it really hard and could feel something else making its way down the tube, and finally out popped a little stuffed reindeer! It was the cutest thing ever, and I totally loved it. A perfectly frivolous Christmas gift just for moi!

What made it even better was that as I stood there basking in the magic of the moment, I could hear my mother hissing to my godmother "Why did you get her THAT? Why didn't you get her something practical like underwear?" Ah, memories!

When I was in 7th grade, my mom and dad gave me roller skates. I was also the youngest of 3 and always wore hand-me-downs from my sister and my cousins, and that included the old roller skates I had.

I had no idea I was getting them and I was just THRILLED TO BITS. I roller skated around the house all day (the house had hardwood floors, and I had parents who loved me more than they loved the floors so I had my own roller skating rink ).

When I was in sixth grade, I got a Birnbaum's Disneyworld book with the invoice for the hotel we'd be staying at, along with a note saying we'd be there for a whole week! It shocked my socks of because I had *no idea* the 'rents were even considering going to Disneyworld. I don't think I've ever cried so much over such a wonderful thing in my life - I had never been!

A couple of years ago my mom gave me one of my favorite childhood books for Christmas - the exact copy I had as a child. It still gives me a goofy smile everytime I think of it.

This yr the best present I'm going to receive is having DH home with us! We're not traveling to see my parents or his & will just have the 3 of us together to celebrate.

It struck me today that he won't be for Christmas next yr so that's making this yr so much more special!

this wasn't for christmas but it was for my birthday, (december 1st, so close enough). I was really stressed because it was the end of the school semester , and i had a full time job, etc, etc, etc. my then bf, now fiance, asked me to meet him at the local shopping plaza, as usual i was stressed and kind of mad because it was my day off and i had a lof of school things to work on, well he surprised me by taking me to a spa, it was the best gift ever, i was so relaxed afterwards!!
