S/O Learning about rumors about yourself?

A guy I had been friends with for 3 years stopped talking to me one day. Told people I was really mean to him (people who knew me well, and therefore knew better). Apparently he decided he thought he was in love with me because he'd run out of friends of mine to be interested in. I found out he'd been telling people I was his ex girlfriend and didn't know why I had broken up with him when his cubemate introduced herself to me and told me that without even having known me when he told her that she told him to stop lying because no one believed him and she knew I wouldn't have dated him.

It wasn't about his appearance (which wasn't so great) but his personality which screamed "I'm nearly 30 and haven't convinced a girl to kiss me yet!"

I was helping some musicians and there were apparently rumors I was saying nasty things about them. I still don't know what those rumors were, as no one would tell me what I supposedly said. I didn't say anything bad about them until well after I'd spend all my free time for a year and a half working with their manager to try to promote them, book tours for them, etc., and they went out of their way to be jerks to me. I don't know if someone completely made things up about me, which is my guess, or if someone misinterpreted something I said. The only thing I could come up with based in reality was that the guys had told me how hard it was to adjust to the idea of strangers coming up to talk to them after shows - they were definitely introverts. They appreciated fans but hadn't yet figured out how to treat that naturally. I tried to arrange a tour for them with one of my friends for whom that was as natural as breathing because I felt it would help them to figure it out. I could see someone misunderstanding and it turning into me saying something mean after a game of telephone.

I can't believe the nasty things people say sometimes! I tended to hang out with the girls who were slightly outcast, yet be friends or at least friendly with the popular girls, so I don't think there were too many rumors about me. I definitely had to set some straight about other girls, though.

But at least the pews never attend yoga!
Many years ago, my then-boyfriend started a rumor (as a joke) that I was going to be auditioning for American Gladiators. I played along with that one, it was too fun to come clean.

The best revenge is living well. The second best revenge is fire ants.
I ran into a high school friend near Notre Dame in Paris, which led to some highly inaccurate and very much romanticized rumors that I lived there, when in fact I was just visiting, using the public showers or the Protestant Student Union facilities, and walking around like an urchin, eating as many pastries as I could on a daily basis.

When I was 18 I was dating a DJ, so got to know a lot of bouncers in clubs. After I broke up with him, I was still friendly with the bouncers, they would let me bypass lines and into VIP rooms.

I found out a few years later that there were rumours going around that I was an escort and that's why these guys were letting me in

Last summer a group of us drove down to Atlantic City. One friend who came, I used to work with, didn't know terribly well, but she was invited by another friend while we were all out one night.

She was just a right ***** the whole weekend, especially towards one one of my closest friends. We had driven down with 4 people in my car, and 3 in the other, so I asked the other girl driving if she would mind taking the *****y one so they didn't kill each other on the way home. She wound up driving with them, and they left a few hours before us.

A few weeks later, another woman I work with came up to me and asked if she could ask me about a rumour. Turns out little miss *****y had been telling people I left her behind in AC and she had to sort her own ride home
I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.
