I'm so sorry, Spring. I love the latest picture. What a beautiful girl.

Y'all are so kind, there is no better group of women on the internet than the ones in this community.

On a brighter note I thought I'd share these pictures I came across while sorting through my albums. When we lived in FL we used to go to a dachshund meet-up where a bunch of weenie owners gathered so the stubbies could run around and play. We all brought snacks (pet and human) and it was a great time. It was pretty awesome for Calvin to be able to socialize since he's got SUCH a bad attitude when meeting new dogs, makes it kind of hard in social situations. I was terrified the first time I took him that he'd show his ass, but he just ran right into the middle of everyone like he owned the place, making me look like a fool for warning everyone of his 'tude.

These are a few of the doggies that were at some of them meet-ups. The dapple on the left in the first picture was just a stunning color mix, I'd never seen anything like him! And the little wirehair in the other picture reminds of of a cute little ole' man, just adorable.

Here's Calvin that day, he'd had a buzz cut and had flames on his collar cover, hot stuff! He's being "inspected" by another doxie.

"You lookin' at me, punk?" (still can't get over how dark his muzzle was!!)

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
Oh no so sorry to hear about sweet Piper.
Poor Piper. I'm so sorry.

Fat does not make you fat. It's actually pretty important.
Those pictures are great Spring! Doxie heaven . Calvin, such a hottie!

Since moving out here to CA, have you seen the Weiner Dog races on tv? I think they are held during the summer. At one of the race tracks. So cute, as the gate opens qand the doxies run in every direction.. I think the winner (and owner) win stuff (hot dogs?) from Weinerschnitzle.

KK, I think someone has mentioned those to me, I'll have to look further into it because to actually see that in person would be awesome. Herds of doxen!!

Those meetups were so much fun. It was great because we were at someones house in a controlled environment with no larger dogs and Calvin never once got his 'tude going.

Okay, somehow Jeepy's message made me feel weepy, and this isn't even a dog I know.

Sniff.

I don't know why, but I feel like sharing this email with y'all is just the right thing to do somehow. My SIL sent this out earlier and I just feel like she's got such a wonderful way with words about what is happening despite what is happening. I know she is heartbroken, but somehow she managed to let everyone know what is going on in such a thoughtful way.

I hope I can handle things this gracefully when the time comes. Thank y'all again for the thoughts and well wishes and I promise I'll be back to ridiculous pictures of Calvin after this (and maybe a Christmas video if Mr. Spring ever puts it together...).

Dear friends and family,

An important step has come in my life and also in Piper's journey of life. After 13 years of love, devotion, protection, long walks, belly rubs, and wet kisses, it is time to say goodbye to one of my oldest and most loved friends that I have known in this life. Some of you may know Piper's situation, but for those of you who do not, I wanted to quickly update you.

Piper had a seizure on Wednesday of this week. After a vet visit on Thursday, blood work and x-rays confirmed she has a mass on her spleen. It is possible the mass hemorrhaged on Wednesday (causing the seizure) but somehow healed itself. Unfortunately, the mass is guaranteed to hemorrhage again and Piper could essentially bleed to death. We also do not know if we have days or weeks before this happens.

In order to allow Piper a peaceful and painless passing filled with comfort and love, Fisher and I have decided to euthanize her. I wanted to thank all of you for being in my life and also ask that on Monday morning around 9 a.m. (pacific standard time) you each send up a prayer and love to help carry Piper to her final resting spot...somewhere on Sirius, the dog star and the brightest in our sky.

This has been a very sudden and emotional experience, but I feel very blessed to have so much love and support during this very big step in life. Piper is a loved dog and that is how I know I've succeeded as a human companion. I think the greatest gift we have for each other is love.

Thank you!
Love

She didn't.

She's sharing the couch with Claude.

I think I've got most of what she likes currently hidden or placed up high. Honestly, who knows anymore? She's my beloved but lunatic little girl.
Thank you Spring, for sharing that lovely message. Piper was certainly loved. Heidi just got extra kisses in Piper's honor.

Ninja, will you please pass the tissues.
