I'm sure he didn't do it for mean reasons...

(about Neosporin - since dogs lick their noses, can it be maybe be toxic to them...?)
I'm home with him more than not and knowing his potty habits I don't think it was a case of just really having to go, but nobody knows but him. He had been out potty twice that morning before we left and hadn't eaten anything. I guess him not pooping while we're gone was a good run while it lasted. We had problems in the past that were food related, but that's all been sorted out long ago and he's good on that now. I'm always paying close attention to any changes in his poop.

(and my vet has said the neosporin is okay, even if they lick it off - just don't put a lot on there... but if his tummy is unhappy...)

Poor Calvin, I just want to hug him.
Good to know Neosporin is ok, I definitely would have looked it up before hand or called the vet about it. He loves to wallow around on the floor and rub his face around on the carpet so I don't know how long it would last on there, but it might help it heal a little faster if I put a super thin layer on.

He seems just fine in the back area, he's super expressive when something isn't quite right and he's his normal spunky self right now. He's got a long history of accidents inside (I call it hate poops As in he hates that we left him home), but he's gone so long without having any I thought he finally "got it". Thankfully I had carpet cleaner.

Thank y'all for all the suggestions and advice. It's always helpful to have input in case I'm missing something.

I am *certain* you are a conscientious mom, Spring There can be no doubt about that! I am glad to hear that your dog is ok! (I had to buy a carpet cleaner too ;p) It can be so hard sometimes to figure out what is bugging their tummies - I really, really wish I spoke dog, you know? Then they could tell me what was wrong...

You could try the cream instead of the ointment. I use that on the kitties when it's needed. It rubs/soaks in easier.

Oh mercy, ain't that the truth!!

MissB, great idea! His nose will start looking a little better (less bright bloody red) then later I'll notice it's bright red AGAIN so I guess he's re-scraping it when he's rolling around on the floor. Hello!? Doesn't that HURT?!

This is my sweet daughter, Mouse, getting her morning drink. She is right-handed, em, pawed, as she finds it easiest to drink running water out of the right side of her mouth. So she puts her face through the faucet & makes this face!

It's so funny in person!
