I call Lily a Calico because her belly and chest are white even though her red and black aren't as patchy as a calico.
She also doesn't have the 'tortitude' that some Torties have.
Both Buddy and Lily share similar fur patterns in the ruff and tail. It's like Buddy is a lot Maine Coon while Lily is a little bit. Lily does have the Maine Coon chirp down.
They're my cuddle buddies.

I think mine would be considered torties, but I call them calicoes. They have white bellies and they are very affectionate.

WOW Lily is so much smaller than Buddy. The other pics make them seem the same size until this one.

Omg, Coilynapp, you're right! She does match the head patch. I never noticed.
He's big. She's dainty. I bought the kitten Advantage II for her because she's way under five pounds. Buddy uses the one for cats greater than 9 pounds.

It was interesting to read all the variations! I like tortie-and-white since she's not patchy like a calico. At any rate, her pattern is neat looking.

No offense to Buddy, but that pic makes him look like a lard ass. : ) Great pic tho. And he is a gorgeous cat.
I would call Lily a torti and Buddy a tri-color or possibly a torbi, but either way it's not something you see every day on a male.

Buddy and I are fluffy food-loving lard asses. 
I don't know how much white makes one go from tortie to calico. She does have white on her chest, paws, and belly. It's hard to see her lay still long enough for a good belly shot.

We'll have to see how he grows up...he's only 3 months old. She had fluffy hair like that as a pup too, but got VERY curly in her 2nd year. They're full siblings, but they could have different hair types.
He's a very happy boy. I'm so in love.

RCC - those dogs are so adorable and I love that they are buddies.
RCW - from what I remember from back in my 'cat lady' days (I'm no cat expert but I had dozens of strays and lots of rescues coming and going at my house for about 10 years, in addition to my own cats), calico colors aren't mixed together. Each of the 3 colors is in separate blocks without stripes or tabby markings. So Lily would be a torti or a torti and white. Buddy is kind of a combo but I think most would call him a torbi. I would have been interested to find out if he was born sterile.
Calicoes and torties are my favorite cats and 3 of my personal favorites were a calico, a black and orange torti, and a grey, tan, and white torti. All a bit odd too. : )
