One of my favorite dogs, Bear, was part St Bernard and part Irish Setter. He weighed over 200 lbs and I think most of that was slobber. : )
(I've probably posted these pics a bunch of times on here. But he really was one of my favorites. Other than not liking (um, hating) kids under a certain height, he loved everything from kitties to ducks to guinea pigs to dogs and rabbits and frogs. He was so smart and just a great dog.)

^ They are big. And I have never ever ever seen a dog shed as much as they do. But they sure are nice family dogs. You just have to make sure one of the kids really likes to run the sweeper. : )

At 200 pounds (are they really that big? Wow!) That would be a HECK of a lot of shedding. Heidi and Hunter don't look so bad now.

I saw the dog and owner twice on the day I first saw the dog, lol. At first the did was alone outside a shop lolling on the sidewalk. I stopped to look since it was so huge. He was friendly and let me pet him. I went in the shop and a woman and girl if about 8 came out of the shop. She was patting him quite vigorously, and he seemed to love it. She could have ridden him.
I saw the dog and woman later that day at the outdoor cafe area at Whole Foods. I asked about the dog then because he was just so unique and mind bogglingly huge. That's when I found out what breed he was.
I've read that they have fairly short life spans. I also read that they are 100 pound dogs, but I swear this dog outweighed me and didn't look fat at all.

Irish wolfhounds are taller, but they're far leaner. They have fabulous rough grey coats.

My ex's daughter has had a few of the Mountain Dog breed, all over 150. Not as big as my Bear was but with very thick hair which makes them look even bigger.
But yes, very short lived compared to small breeds. I think her last one lived to 8 or 9. My Bear only lived to 8. He got bone cancer in his hip and was just too big to support himself on 3 legs (which would have been an option with a smaller dog) : (
Back to happy pet thoughts.
I think fierycurls traqs her hubby in addition to the dog, cat, and kids. : )

Calm, cool, and collected is just his personality. It can drive me crazy at times, but he offers a good balance to my personality.
