I adore the name Tarder Sauce. I think it would be a great name for a guinea pig.

We had a calico kitty that coddled me from the time I was born until she passed away. She was an awesome cat who was always looking after me.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

We live in New England and double pawed cats are very common, and Wesson is a Maine Coon Mix so she is fluffy and fancy while Smith blends in with anything brown or black. They are both girls despite their names.. We picked them based on color and they have turned out to be so wonderful. They come when they are called! Anyone mind a little story? This is my girl Gigi. She'll be 12 this month.

I noticed a few months ago that she was drinking and peeing a lot so the doc tested her and said she had diabetes and had to go on two shots a day. He said that I should buy a glucometer to test her sugar twice a week. Since my daughter has Type 1 it really wan't much of a disturbance to our routine.

But her blood sugar almost immediately after starting insulin went back down to normal. Her vet said cats go into remission but that he'd never seen it happen so fast but said to take her off insulin.

About a week later I noticed that Gigi no longer was walking on her tiptoes on her back legs but rather on her hocks. I texted him and he said that type of stance is very typical of diabetic cats (google "plantigrade stance") and that it would improve but take longer than her blood sugar took.

But she hasn't been getting better. So two weeks ago he came over to look at her and said, "If this were diabetes it would have cleared up by now. She probably has a tumor on her spine. We could MRI it, but if it's this advanced there's really no treatment anyway. She has a few months left. Just love her and keep her comfortable and you'll know when it's time to put her down."

I've been SO sad. But after about a week I texted the vet and said, "Listen, humor me, okay? I bought a really cheap glucometer and I'm wondering if it's been giving the wrong readings." To his credit he didn't say, "Springcurl, 5 stages of grief. You cat's dying." He said, "Okay, I'll test it." So he came over with his glucometer and tested her and sure enough her sugar was HIGH.

So she went back on insulin once a day. Then he came back today and tested again and it's better but not great so now she's on 2 shots a day again. BUT he said he no longer believes she has a tumor, that it's probably the neuropathy from the diabetes after all and that it will improve.

I'm so happy. I really wasn't ready to say goodbye to my girl.
