Our gray fox is back!!!!!!!!!!!! We didn't see him at all last year and feared he had gone to that great foxhole in the sky, but I looked out the window just now, and there he was in his usual spot just chillin' in the shade. I went out on the deck and tossed him a nice crusty piece of bread, and we chatted while he ate it. Hee!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa Loopner rarely comes in the house but today she decided to visit for awhile. First she knocked one of my heavy agate spheres off the shelf and played with that for awhile. Then a long bath and a nap. (excuse the crappy phone pics. I couldn't get to my camera)

Ok, even crazier, she jumped up on the couch and then stood on my lap and stared in my face. I risked a face slashing and petted her head for the very first time.

^ Yippeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! We'll leave the porch light on for you.

I'm positive it's "our" fox now - he always used to come up on the deck and take a very quick peek in the door to see if I was home if I didn't notice him sitting outside waiting for me to bring him his lunch/dinner, and he did just that a little while ago. After I peeked back out at him and waved, he sauntered back down the stairs and sat and waited under his tree.

claudine, his favorite is any kind of leftover meats we toss out there to him, particularly chicken. He is especially happy when I make chicken soup and put aside the ookier parts of the chicken for him. He almost grins at me and licks his chops. His next favorite is bread - the crustier, the better. If we toss him a few pieces, he sometimes eats one piece in front of us, then crams the other two in his mouth and takes off with it. I assume he's taking it back to his foxhole either to hoard or to share with offspring. He'll also eat birdseed when he's hungry enough. He's a character.

Perri, he may very well be a she! We really aren't sure and can't really see his/her "undercarriage" so to speak. For whatever reason - probably because he seems so dog-like - we've just always referred to him as a "he". It's my understanding that there aren't any noticeable differences between the males and females other than the females being slightly smaller. One of the first years he started coming around, he did bring 3 kits with him a few times to feed, but I didn't have the presence of mind to grab a camera. If he does this year, I'll be sure to get some pics!

The doggie is Biscuit. My sister is petsitting him for a week. He is adorable and very well behaved (except that he chases the cats).
The kittie is Buttercup, one of the wildcats she feeds. He is not in great health but, like Todd and Lisa, it's just hard to catch them when you can get them to the vet. At least they get lots of food and a safe place to rest.

PS scrills and claudine, I was in your neck of the woods today. Took a ride with Mr Harley over to Harrassments in Jefferson.
