I haven't been to a nail salon forever, but to this day I will always be picky because of one bad experience. the first salon I ever went to was run by 2 brothers, and they were AMAZING. I never knew how great they truly were until I went somewhere else to save a few bucks. The tech did the bare minimum, kicked me out of the chair with wet nails, cut me several times with the nail file, and they looked so crappy I had to go back to my normal guy to have them fixed.

Oh no. Thats ridiculous.

I believe Bretty posted the Laynie link up thread. I tried it once, but it took off all of the polish. Maybe my sponges aren't right. I'll have to try again.

Cutepolish has a new video using temporary tattoos. It looks easy and pretty.

Gelish manicure in gossip girl. Perfect hot pink creme!

Pedicure in OPI pompeii purple. A hot fuschia with blue/violet duochrome. One of my fave polishes of all time!

Layali, that pedicure color sounds amazing! I've actually been looking for a color like that. I'll have to check it out.

Yes, it's amazing! The name is misleading, because the base color is a pink, but I LOVES it!

Zoya Lola is another hot pink with blue/purple duochrome. Also a great color

I say awesome and cool, and occasionally right on, because I refuse to adopt any new slang. I hate slang.

Unless killer came back. I'd be all for that.

Zoya Venus. 3 coats. I really like this color.

I say awesome, neat, and cool. I don't really say killer, but I should.

Quick Question:

Do any of you ladies use base coats when you paint your nails? I've never used one before but recently I bought a couple bottles of different brand of polish that chips a ton more than I'm used to. I bought Revlon Quick Dry base coat the other day and I'll probably try it later this week.

In your opinion, is a base coat worth the time/effort or should I just stick to better quality brands and a top coat?

Thanks!

Yep, I use a base coat every time. I'm not one of the experienced ladies here but one thing I've noticed.

Try to get the base with one stroke. Every freakin' time I add more I end up with bubbling, every.dam.time. I guess they just dry faster, IDK.

It doesn't matter which base I use either. I have SH Double Duty, Essie Grow Stronger, Poshe Strengthener and NutraNail Green Tea Strengthener (supposed to be ok as a base). I just picked up CG Strong Adhesion but have only used it once so the jury's out.

Today is Nubar Earthen. It's the only one from the Spring Garden collection that I haven't used. I felt sorry for that poor neglected polish, feeling all sad when the others have been used heavily for the last month.

It's a light shimmery grey, sort of mushroomy. My other light greys are creams, so it's nice to have this one as a subtle shimmer.

I tried to do some daisy artwork. I wasn't that fond of my stem, and the large one looks a bit like a dippy egg, but I really like the ones where I did two smaller ones.

I always use a base coat. Polish sheets right off if I don't.

I use Nubar Nu Nail as a protective coat, and the Nubar Foundation Base Coat to help keep the color on.

Does that soak into the nail curlyserf or is it a coating like polish?

It's a coating like a polish. I use it just like any other base coat.

Thanks! I appreciate all of the responses.

I don't know why it took me so long to figure out that's what I needed. Maybe because last time I was really into nail polish was back in middle school. I would repaint my nails at night to match my outfit for the next day so chipping didn't matter. I had soooo much time on my hands back then. Lol
