What nail polish do you have on at the moment?

How long does it take to do your nails?

I always want to paint them, but it seems like it takes YEARS for them to dry properly!!! And with two dogs, its hard to not touch anything or have anything touch them!

So any tips on how all you ladies get such pretty fingers without hair lines and such, I would appreciate it!

TIA!

I would love to see recommendations of top coats, stengtheners, base coats, cutical oils,
whatever people are using to make your nails look so good. I'm just getting back into painting my nails after years of not doing it ever and want a decent looking manicure regimen I can do at home. Thanks to anyone willing to share.

I do have currently Recondition and Seche Vite but they haven't really worked wonders for me. I painted my fingernails for the first time in probably three years last weekend and by Tuesday they were already a chipped mess.

Still Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue It, but I got sick of looking at the crummy job I did the other day and was too lazy to change it. Solution? I added a layer of China Glaze Techno (looove). It covers up some of my poor application, and the glitter distracts the eye from the stuff it doesn't hide. Or it distracts mine, anyway!

What did you read about seche vite? It's a top coat. I just recently tried it for the first time. It works amazingly well so fa, but I heard the bottle dries out quickly.

To remove glitters, you can try using felt. Or just use one cotton ball per 1-2 fingers. Let it soak on your nails for a while, and then squeeze clean off.
This is going to sound nuts, but it totally works.

Soak a cotton ball with nail polish remover. Place it on top of your nail. Then wrap aluminum foil around your finger and leave it there for 5 minutes or so. Take off the foil and remove the cotton by pressing down firmly and wiping toward the end of your nail. Voila - no more glitter!

I've never had a problem with my Seche drying out.

I like that Seche Vite makes the polish dry fast. That was why I bought it in the first place but for me, it doesn't seem to help stop chipping. It does give a nice shiny top coat though until it does chip. Don't know about it getting thick. I've only used it once.

I also bought that company's Recondition to help my nails be a bit more flexible as they grow so I wouldn't be breaking my nails so much. It hasn't done much for me but I just got it and I'm not too consistent with putting it on. This was the first time used it and put colored polish over it. I had only used it alone before.

I was reading a blog where someone recommended Nail Magic which can be bought at Sally Beauty Supply. Has anyone used this with good results?
thanks for all the tips!!

there were a couple of comments on makeupalley that the seche vite has extreme health warnings and on girl was saying she got sick every time she used it. i didn't investigate or read the bottle but i wondered if it had questionable ingredients, perhaps that made them work so well...sounds like it was maybe just a random comment.

It doesn't specify which ingredient or the amount or type of contact the State of California deems dangerous. California has much more stringent labeling requirements than the federal government does. I wouldn't use it if I were pregnant, but other than that I don't find it worrisome.

The person who wrote the comment may just be sensitive to the smell or something in the ingredients.

ETA: Sariroo, I think you asked about base coats/top coats. I think we should start another thread instead of guano-ing this one!

I did my toes for the Fourth of July. They're red, except for my second toe, which is blue, and I have sparkles on all but the big toe.

I should have done blue on the 3rd toe, instead of the second. Totally unimportant, but something that's nagging at mr nonetheless.
My toenails are in some kind of sparkly red with a flowery design on the big toes.

My fingernails are OPI's Light My Sapphire.

OPI Mermaid's Tears. I LOVE this color. It's an awesome seafoam type color. Inside a cool blue and outside looks more green.

why didn't I know this sooner?!? Painted my nail art on a plastic baggie, when it dries it peels right off, I'm able to press it onto wet polish and put a coat of clear on top! Made flag decals for the 4th were going to a Nationals game so I'm feeling terribly festive. Lol post finished pics later.
